Not bad for a person making $103,000 per year. She formed a new corporation through which the $1.1 million purchase was made - in the same building that Corzine lives. What a coincidence!
Report: Corzine's ex paid $1.1M for condo
The Associated Press
HOBOKEN, N.J. - Gov. Jon S. Corzine's former girlfriend bought a condominium for $1.1 million in the same building where Corzine lives, The Star-Ledger of Newark reported Wednesday.
The newspaper said state and county records showed state worker union leader Carla Katz made the purchase through a newly formed corporation, Neruda Hoboken LLC, in which she is the sole corporate officer.
It was not clear how Katz, who is paid nearly $103,000 as president of Communications Workers of America Local 1034, generated the money for the purchase.
Katz declined to answer questions about the transaction or her personal finances.
Corzine told the newspaper that all financial ties between the two were severed shortly after their relationship ended in 2004.
The multimillionaire governor acknowledged over the weekend that he gave additional large gifts to the union boss.
Another large gift, involving the forgiveness of a $470,000 mortgage on Katz's home in Hunterdon County, became an issue in Corzine's successful run for governor.
