Nuisance bears have been getting relocated to northern NJ for decades. It became over run by bears in the north. After a long hard fight a bear hunt was enacted.
Hunting in general has been under close scrutiny lately. The publics view is important to hunting and its future. We as hunters need to think about this before we release that arrow or pull that trigger. It might be unfortunate but its the world we live in.
You guys can try to defend this person who "allegedly killed pedals" but honestly you have gotta be one sadistic prick to shoot this bear. Legal or not!
This guy could have single handedly ended bear hunting in NJ. Like bear hunting was not getting enough critism to begin with...smh...back to being over run by bears I guess.
Your first sentence is untrue because the population started to expand from North Jersey years ago and when they were found in other areas and had to be relocated, there were no other areas in the state with: A. The habitat and townships that would accept them. B. No other states wanted them. The overpopulation issue occurred because of the lack of a season and ideal conditions for them to survive. We didn't have to fight for a bear season, the complaint reports, damage to agriculture, home break ins, livestock attacks etc..did that for us as the victims of what I mentioned had had enough and demanded the state do something to control them. You must be new to hunting or have lived under a rock for a while, as the opposition to it started a long time ago but there was no internet or SM to provide an instant platform for the wackos.
What do we need to think about? How many non-hunters have been injured or killed by a hunter in NJ? We all had to take a hunter safety course before we got licensed. Some hunters may not be ethical but you can find people like that in any activity or profession if you look hard enough. Just look at our political leaders.
The public's view of hunters is only influenced by the media which does not report the truth, they report the news. It's the constant drumbeat of comments like yours that they use as gasoline to put on the fire of scrutiny. You may not like the size or type of animal another hunter takes but if they did it legally and honestly why would you call him out? The sadism is wanting to see the bear in a zoo as compared to its natural environment and knowing what happened to the guy from Rutgers and the anti's are completely silent about it or claim it was foul play.
The criticism will never end, you need to understand and get used to that. In 1976 PA opened its bear season and the anti's were there and predicted that all the bears would be killed. Today there are 15,000. The only place where animals have names is in the Disney movies and if you saw bambi you know the image they have been portraying of hunters for a long time.
