When is the best time to hunt the field edges and best time hunting in the woods? i like to hunt deep in the woods in the morning and the field edges in the afternoon. What has worked best for you guys?

I like to hunt deeper in the woods closer to bedding areas in the morning. Most of the big bucks are off the fields well before sunrise. I hunt about 75 yds off our corn field in the evening and always have action moving thru on its way to the corn before dark.

I have not 1 field edge on or near anywhere I hunt, so all my hunting is in the woods. Trails closer to bedding in the am, closer to what they are feeding on in the pm, and Creek crossings anytime. I also have had success sitting in oaks that are dropping midday, 10-2.

No preference, but always make sure you can get a shot out into the field if you are set up near one, even if you are expecting the deer to be in the woods. Learned that after having some good bucks walk along the edge of fields and I didn't have a lane out there.

If you want to watch deer hunt the edge and if you want to kill deer find a trail in the woods leading to the field. If going to hunt the edge do it in the afternoon because most of the time deer will be in the fields in the morning and you will spook them off on your way in[up]

All depends on pressure around you. Deer will walk out into fields during legal shooting light in areas with little or no pressure. Heavy pressure areas and the deer tend to have staging areas not far from the fields where they hang until dark or almost dark when they feel safe entering the field. Both the private farms I hunt I hunt the same. From the outside in. Start out on the field edges and perimeter property lines in the early season and as the season progresses, move a little deeper into the property. I never go into the center of a property until I know the bucks are cruising and then its usually for an all day sit. If you are going in deep and blowing every deer out on the way in that's not good.

This year, in a soybean field, the edge started out good. I was seeing alot of deer each time. Including a bachelor group of five or six bucks. I started in a blind with my daughter at the very edge. Now as the beans are brown, I see less deer, sometimes none in the field. Now I move into the woods a bit with a climber to try and figure out where they are going. It could be the pressure of us being there or better food somewhere else. I can't figure it out right now and it's bugging me.

Once the beans turn yellow, the deer are done with them unless they are still standing late season. Now. Corn fields are being cut and acorns are dropping. The deer will spend a few days cleaning up the corn and hit the acorns.
Green fields of winter rye and wheat are going in. Once the rye and wheat germinate, they will hit those fields all winter long

I like about 40 yards off the thick bedding areas in a well brushed in ground blind. Always have good success with the night hunts. Mornings I like 30 yards off fields with a food source in a stand. The key is sneaking into the stand without kicking the deer feeding or bedding in the fields. Good luck!
