Hongo - Why should we trust you as a "hunting advocate"? You come on here and your first post is to try and out the OP as an anti because he wrote a story about why someone would dump guinea pigs on the woods - which by the way, WHY WOULD SOMEONE DO THAT??? So he quickly debunks you and provides stories of him hunting with his dad and a few others. You still question him though. Maybe you're the anti who doesn't want a story written by someone with a hunters background thus providing a pro-hunters angle on the story. Ever think of that?I hear you.
To anyone else on this forum: if you are the guy he (Jason Nark) is looking for, I advise you not to contact him. I doubt he will present your views in an unbiased way.
Am I really to believe that a bear had his own Facebook page? Now, even if a bear could get his hands on a computer, how would a bear with injured paws possible type it's name and password, let alone post selfies and pics of what he ate for lunch?Hey all, This is Jason Nark from the Daily News and Inquirer in Philly. I've written about hunting, fishing, Pinelands, guns, outdoor issues, off-roading, etc. Google my name if you'd like to.
I am looking to get a message to the hunter who may have taken Pedals and looking for anyone who knows any bear hunters in New Jersey to spread the word and let him know I'm interested. I can be reached at narkj@phillynews.com
Also, I'm fully aware that there's a large group of people who are very upset about this. The bear had its own Facebook pages. If the hunter is reluctant to have his identity out there, it's something he/she? and I can talk about.
I am NOT asking anyone to give me his name, just to pass my info along to this person. I know you're all probably skeptical and that's fine. Believe what you want about the media.
Thanks in advance.
Jason Nark.
OK, then go ahead and do an interview. I'm not stopping you. I just think anyone who is doing the story from the "pedals" angle is already biased against us. I used to be dlist777, I couldn't log in because they changed my password and I don't have access to my old email...so I had to create a new account to join.Hongo - Why should we trust you as a "hunting advocate"? Consider this; "Pedals" did not always walk upright. It did walk on all 4 legs from time to time as shown in video. It's possible the hunter had no idea it was the famous Mr. Pedals.... That's if it's really dead at all...Nuisance bears have been getting relocated to northern NJ for decades. It became over run by bears in the north. After a long hard fight a bear hunt was enacted.
You guys can try to defend this person who "allegedly killed pedals" but honestly you have gotta be one sadistic prick to shoot this bear. Legal or not!
This guy could have single handedly ended bear hunting in NJ. Like bear hunting was not getting enough critism to begin with...smh...back to being over run by bears I guess.
If you saw my earlier post, you'll see that pedals is alive and well. With all this publicity he was able to sign a sponsorship deal with Schwinn.
There is no such thing as pedals. Pedals are on bikes and flowers. There is such thing as a crippled bear that may or may not be dead so why are we discussing morality of a hunt that may or may not have happened. I know a lot of big bucks that get killed in the backyards all around this state. All those bucks that come out of Monmouth county are all backyard bucks. Does it make it any different? NOPE. I've seen my fair share of deer taken by hunters that have 3 legs. Does that make it wrong?NOPE. I've even seen a deer with a condition called slipperfoot get killed by a hunter, does it make it wrong? NOPE. Now everyone please take your skirts off and move on. It's nature and nothing else. Nature doesn't know a name, or a face,or a color, it just is. It's cruel and heartless at times, and also wonderful and amazing too. Animals live and die every day just like humans. This is what anti's don't understand, life and how it works. Bear hunting or hunting or fishing in general isn't about the trophys it's about the understanding of life and how it works. We are all outdoorsman that stand together. Now do it. ChrisNuisance bears have been getting relocated to northern NJ for decades. It became over run by bears in the north. Hunting in general has been under close scrutiny lately. The publics view is important to hunting and its future. We as hunters need to think about this before we release that arrow or pull that trigger. It might be unfortunate but its the world we live in.

You know what is really amazing, is how so many of us sportsmen have fallen for the "disneyfication" of this bear. Can you imagine how easily the GP falls into it?!!!There is no such thing as pedals. Pedals are on bikes and flowers...
The very fact that you are pursuing a story about a sensationalized bear, that may or may not have been killed in a legal hunt proves this. Maybe a story about the factual obsession, and death threats associated with the criminal element that choose to humanize animals would be a more prudent journalistic signature for your resume...I never said I wanted to write a sensational story. You said that, pintail.
I agree. The terrorist threats toward the hunter from these people needs to be the story. No one should get away with that. The NJDEP and the state police should be on this type of thing and make examples of those making the threats. The real story is way past the taking of a legal bear named or not.The very fact that you are pursuing a story about a sensationalized bear, that may or may not have been killed in a legal hunt proves this. You hit the nail on the head [up]I think it's time we stop calling this wild animal by a name. It's a bear, no more no less than any of the other bears taken during the hunt, if it even was taken. But if giving a name to an animal somehow makes it untouchable, I have become pretty attached to an 8 point in zone 3 that I named Fluffy. So if any of you see it, I would appreciate it if you could just let it pass by...you know, because I'd miss him [rofl]
