I am having trouble finding ammo for yotes. Since I bought a $200 tactical light with a red filter to mount on one of my guns I am psyced for 'yotes.
I called Ray's ; Ramsey Outdoors and Davis Sport.
Davis was the only one with 30-06 150 grain FMJ. If I get that I can use my Rem 700. It has a matte finish so I don't need to camo it. I have plenty of soft points in various sizes, but I don't want a 3" diameter exit wound. I am not sure how big the exit wound will be with a FMJ.
Ray's has the CCI Stingers. I would have to camo my Marlin 25. I would also have to take it to the range to adjust the scope. I set it for regular LR's to shoot silouettes. The Stingers are about 15 clicks different at 50 yds, Also I don't get that good of a group the Stingers. I have shot 'yotes with the Stingers in the past. Shot placement becomes as critical as with deeer hunting. Pelt damage is a non issue because the hyper velocity non jacketed hollow points break up making several wound tracts. There is no exit wound.
Third choice is to use my 835 with the turkey set up. My turkey choke is rated for lead only. No one has 3.5" shells in lead bigger than #4. I am not fond of the idea of multiple small pellet holes in the pelt.
Since I have to use the shot gun in NJ I will probably rig it up on there at least until after Monday. The light will have to go on top of the scope. On the rifles it goes under the barrel.
