Today, BarnettBowhunter, Beaverkill, NJDiverDan, Wojtowicza and myself went bowhunting in zone 6. Well, I couldnt hunt, since I was already tagged out in that zone, so I went along to show them some spots I had scouted for them.
Woj, DiverDan and I walked down to a good little spot I scouted the past couple weeks and we jumped a few out of Woj's spot. After they knew where to go, I went back to show Beaverkill and BarnettBowhunter to their spots. They had a bit of a walk ahead of them, so I told them to wait ahead for me. I figured if they did part of the walk without me, they wouldnt get sweated up as bad. Its a lot easier going for me with no stand or bow.
After they got settled into their spots, I decided to shed hunt the back side of the property. So I spent from about 3pm till 5pm looking for sheds. No luck finding sheds, but I was away from most the current deer sign, since the guys were hunting over it.
When I finally made it back to the parking area around 5:30. I found Dan and Woj. Dan had shot a shed buck shortly after he climbed into his stand. My legs were tired, so Im glad he already tracked and dragged it out.
We stood around and BS'd for a little while. Waiting for Beaverkill and Barnettbowhunter to get back was a little nerve wracking though. We knew they had a long walk, but they didnt get out till about quarter after 6. You start to worry about your friends when they are in completely unfamiliar woods in the dark. I know the woods pretty well from scouting, but this is the first time they had been in there.
I was a little worried they'd be dissapointed with the lack of deer, afterall, this is a winter bowhunt in zone 6 with no bait, on semi-unfamiliar terrain. I've never deer hunted there, only scouted.
Had a blast though, and learned a little bit of new terrain on the other side there...Found some promising spots for next fall and got to hunt with some good buddies. Heck, we were even fortunate enough to take a deer. Good job Dan!
Good day![up]
CONGRATS again Dan![up][up]
