well i'm going to move on in fishing this year. i'm getting bored with spinner fishing. i'm going to make the move to fly fishing. it's been awhile since i did it. pretty much like starting over. i need more of a challenge fishing. [up]

i thought you were gonna say to switch teams[rofl][rofl]

I got into flyfishing last year and im hooked..Im happy with my combo set up from b [no swearing please] pro..If your goin for trout..a 9 ft 5 wt is the best set up all around pole to get..Learn how to tie a few knots on orvis.com and get some bead head nymphs and woolys..you will never go back..

Same here. My wife told me she is going to enroll me in the Orvis Fly fishing school in the Pocono's. I don't know where it is or how long it is, but that's my birthday present.
She wanted to do it for me last year, but we were under contract to move last spring, so everything got put on hold. This year, there will be no distractions so I'm really looking forward to learning something new.

tempple fork fly rod-$100
G loomis adventure fly reel-$100
Both have a life time warrenty
I would suggest getting a 4 weight, good all around fresh water rod for trout, panfish, bass.Or if your looking to catch bigger freshwater fish, go with a 5 weight.I wouldnt get anything bigger than 8 foot for fishing streams and rivers

wingshooter. anything you need to know. or whenever you want to go just let me know.

freshwater-spend more on the rod then the reel
saltwater- spend money on the reel!!

use as long of a rod as you feel comfortable using especially for nymphing, the longer the better.

personally i feel 8 is a little too short. i use a 8'6" 4 wt for streams and sometimes bigger rivers but i would def bump up to a 9 footer most of the time. you get much more effective casts. and if you like to nymph you def want atleast a 9 footer.

want to learn how to fly fish,,,specially salt water
make sure I am no where near you or the town you are in[hihi]

the rod really depends on what type of fishing you are going to do, I agree with pheasanttail about the 9ft 5wt for all around on a big river. I use a 3wt for smaller streams....where do you guys go fly fishing in NJ? I live by the catskills, if your ever up this way let me know!

It is about time Woj...I will help you set up that rod and show you a few things. Flyfishing is easier than most people think..Your rod will be fine..If you want We can go to the Flyfishing Show at the end of the month and pick up some new line and other things...

I personally use a 9ft 4 wt for most of my Jersey fishing, since mostly it is nymphing. I also use a 7'6" 2 wt on the small creeks and wild trout streams...I like to use a 9 ft 6 wt on the East Branch and Main Stem of the Delaware, you get wind and I like a heavier line on the large waters..
