Even though they aren't counted for the SG Contest, thought I would post a couple of pics from today at the gun club.
My 3 birds w/The Girls, Reba and Dixie, and my Merkel 16ga. SxS.

Some of the birds going out today.:D

Hey Ringneck, between you and me we got 3 of the 5 roosters that I put on that side. At least one other was flushed off by the "other guy's" dog. It went into the preserve. [mad]

Don't know why but we had a lot of hens today to go out.

Nice looking girls, nice birds and a nice gun !!! Love the fiddleback in the stock.

wink,

Thanks on all accts. I just got a new Merkel 1620 in 16ga. and the wood is almost identical. [up]

Main difference is the new one is about 6oz lighter weighing in at just 6lbs and I had Briley choke tubes put in it. So I can use it for everything.:D

Damn, you lucked out then, fiddleback is hard to find in a walnut stock, much more commom in maple, but somehow, I think the darker walnut wood much more beautifully accents the blonde fiddleback. Funny thing is, in that pic, you don't even have the light reflected properly to show that fiddleback to it's best advantage, so you can tell it's a beautiful piece of wood !!!!

Yea, the Merkels aren't cheap but they are a nice product. The one in the pic, a 47E, and the new 1620 which looks just like it are the bottom line guns. They have higher grade versions. The next version up is around $6200.00. Main differences are higher grade wood and some engraving. I didn't need it for the $$. ;)

TJC, where ya'll get your birds from?

Also, where is your hunting club located (land)

I belong to Valley Sportsman and our Club Meetings are in Alpha.

hunthard,

The club property is located on Carpentersville Rd. The Hartung (sp??) Farm. The owner, Gary, just passed away right before the season opened. He was a very nice guy and I think he really enjoyed having the club members lease the property.

The birds come from a breeder in Pa but I don't know the name. I'm just one of the "hired guys" that does the stocking, not the buying.:p

TJC, Most of our Club property is by the Owl's Nest. Pretty good sights of deer up there. I just joined the club this year. Bird hunting is some of the best I have even seen too!

TLC Three Bridges for me in the AM
I was going to go out today and shoot a couple of birds but I've obviously caught the crap that is going around and sidelining every one. Coughing, feeling terrible, and tired.

I've been off work since Nov 8th and due back tomorrow. I don't think ANYONE would believe I'm sick. [ko] Gotta show up and put some time in.[down]

Not as uncommon as you think when looking at a quality shotgun. All of the Merkels, Griffen & Howes or Kreighoffs that I have handled have had a fiddle back stock.

Even my Ruger Red Label with American Walnut has a fiddle back stock.
