Saturday youth day was down in South Jersey. A friend offered to take my son out, great guy! While getting our gear together at the car the gobbles on the roost started. We got into out blind and had 45 minutes of dark, man the sun could not come up quick enough!
Heard more gobbles as the sun broke and hens started appearing in the field. Then some gobblers. They were far out and headed the wrong way. Then all of a sudden all birds flew over towards our blind in a huff. Look up and see a bald eagle circling the field. Talk about a turkey drive!
They settled down and 4 hens walk past the blind at 5 yards, then 3 jakes start coming in. My friend says lets the jakes pass as we had some gobblers about 10 yards behind them. My sons eyes got wide, but he let them walk
As jakes passed us the gobblers got within 20 yards. One was strutting and gobbling. Boy got the go ahead and let one shot loose. Bird down at 6:50! 19 lbs 10" beard, 7/8 spurs. GREAT day!
