How many of you guys remember in the late 60's - the 80's how good the hunting was in this small area. Mallards Broad Bills Canvasbacks (when Legal) and the point system. Shoot a hen Mallard and you are done. This year was the first year in I don't know long that Red Heads and Broad bills were in the Ditch. Of course they were there after the season but it is encouraging..

that was before my time but I've heard stories about it from my dad and uncles. great spot for weakfish nowadays when they're around.
I too remember when Raritan bay was filthy with broadbills from Perth Amboy all the wat to the point in Union Beach. I also remember the one year it froze all the way across from Laurance Harbor to Staten Island and the only open water was the beach front in South Amboy. The city put that dam gate up so you could not access the beach. So what did we do? We dug two trenches under the gate so we could get my buddy's mom's import car under the gate. That sure saved us from humping 300 single strung decoys to our spot.
