It's all about location. I have a few farms that still need deer shot as there is no surrounding pressure.
I have others that won't get touched because they we really hammered next door.

Many guys still hunting also haven't shot a deer yet. So saying they shouldn't hunt now is silly.
No difference shooting one now or in september.
Misunderstood you...

I believe the numbers in Zone 2 where I am are fairly stable. We had less does, plenty of smaller racked bucks, seven different spikes, but only two mature bucks. Over the years I've noticed the mature animals get by unless we get lucky enough to shoot them. The neighbors don't kill them, see them or admit to either. The spikes disappear pretty quickly. I have a few mature does that are so wary anymore that every blind location has them on edge, but no one shooting them. Maybe poaching takes a few? I don't know. Since owning the property for four years, patterning them is easier but killing them is not.

Since you have some farms that need hunting why not invite all the guys on here still looking for a deer? I mean you are all for hunting till the end it seems...

All the guys who have lots of deer on private property should help their fellow hunter out, no?

I know I know it's all good for them to hunt just not on your private land... [eyeroll]
I cant figure out if:

A) You are completely misunderstanding what he's saying.

B) You are completely trolling him.

Are you serious?

Today I'm on the side of the fence where we should practice control of our own destiny, for me it's shoot the fawn, not the breeder doe, leave the buck no matter how big to the trophy hunters. HOWEVER at times I will be on the other side of the fence where if it's brown without nice horns, its down, Why does it seem like I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth ya ask? Cause 50 miles separate the first part in Z5 (I understand Jack) and the second part where the herd need to be thinned out.:fudd: If it's not done by hunters, then the farmer will thin them out and at least this way a few people get to shoot and the meat will not go to waist. [tasty]

I just wish there was a way to relocate the deer from one area to the other, But no one is willing to pay for that.:sour:
I relocate deer every year-- from the woods to my freezer and pay the butcher quite well btw. LOL Relocating deer is the dumbest idea they ever thought of (well maybe right after birth control). A good percentage actually died during transport due to stress when they tried relocations many years ago.

I say the limits and seasons are set by SCIENTISTS way beyond the likes of me to question so I'm shooting all I can PLUS you don't even have to pay a cent toward HHH when you drop one off now!

I'm on the side where i want to have something to hunt next year. The few deer i'm seeing occasionally just gives me more incentive to let it be and give it a break.I have two mature bucks that returned and if they make it two more weeks i have something to look foward too next fall.If i kill one than i'm certain the other will get pushed out and wiped out that's how the area i hunt is.No pressure on my property but alot of hunters not far from there.I like winterbow the most and have since i started hunting but not when i don't know if i will even have a buck to hunt next season.Maybe my thinking is off and i should go tag out on a good buck considering i only took one buck this year in ny state. But i won't be happy afterwards i will for a few days and when it wears off my mind will say just think he was only two weeks from the end of the season and from being next years slammer and i killed him.Know if i get lucky and see a few more on cam between know and then i would hunt a few times. But as it stands i'm letting it rest not enough deer and if someone else kills one of the bucks between know and the end. I hope its a kid or a vet and not a guy who killed 10 already.

Have not dropped anything this season. I have been mentoring my nephew (13) who took his first deer ever this season (a doe). Land owner was nice enough to let me bring him on board (he got a nice back strap for the family). My time in the stand has been less due to having a youth with me,but I am enjoying the season. I have seen deer on numerous occasion while alone on stand but was nothing I would shoot. Have been sticking with the bow and have only had the shotgun out once. I would be happier to see my nephew get his first buck then get one myself. We will see what happens. If not next season will be here before you know it. Good luck to all!

I personally think the amount of HUNTABLE deer is down by me in 14. The spot I hunt is surrounded by mansions on 9 acre lots. I watch the deer eating in these well maintained lawns and under the numerous bird feeder that little Spanish guys fill every day for these people. When they are done, the deer walk to the back of their lots and lay down. These people not only don't allow hunting but also love the deer that are eating their bushes and lawns. I get a shot at one once in a while when it wanders over to my side and during the rut when they are chasing each other. Oh well, it their property and they can do what they want. I'm happy to get what I get but I do think the deer heed hasn't suffered as much as ways to get to the deer to hunt them near me...
