I noticed that half the hunters on here are complaining that there are no Deer left. The other half are still out shooting them!!!!!!!??????
What do ya think?[confused]

I'm on the side of, there's plenty of deer to be had if you know how to hunt, but in those areas that got slammed with EHD, well those areas are way down. While bird hunting at whittingham this year, the deer and buck sign was there in the usual places, and even saw a nice 6 that nearly ran me and the dog over!! Are they down from 15 years ago? Yes, but that was the point, the deer where eating everything and wreck in the habitat, now it's thicker in there than it ever was.

They are still out there if you have good property an are willing to put in the time an effort to adjust your location as they change patterns. If your stuck only hunting public land an aren't flexible and set up with multiple spots it can be very frustrating this time of year! I am in the half still out there hunting every day!

Had a whole herd run right up to my stand on Saturday but thanks to JackHarris I was busy watching a substitute teacher misbehave instead of paying attention. Luckily one wandered back later and is now at the butcher.
Admit it - it was worth it.

I'm somewhere in between the two, if that makes sense. And I believe that's exactly where the state of the deer herd is as well...

To me it depends on the zone. No way I would shoot anything in zone 5 unless it's a big buck. I shot a doe at my zone 2 spot last night because that particular spot has consistently shown me a very high doe density since September. So to answer your question - it's all about the zone and personal responsibility

Also depends on certain areas within a zone. I know zones that have private properties with plenty of deer but public lands with unlimited slaughter. Its not always that cut and dry but thats the case in a lot of areas. Then there are areas with both private and public hurting. Then you have areas with more restriction where the herd isnt hurting as bad on public. Very intricate imo

It's all about location. I have a few farms that still need deer shot as there is no surrounding pressure.
I have others that won't get touched because they we really hammered next door.

Many guys still hunting also haven't shot a deer yet. So saying they shouldn't hunt now is silly.
No difference shooting one now or in september.

Now don't be silly Dan we both know that if every Hunter in Both Rez and non-Rez shot a deer there would literally be nothing left and not enough so everybody gets one in the first place.

Today I'm on the side of the fence where we should practice control of our own destiny, for me it's shoot the fawn, not the breeder doe, leave the buck no matter how big to the trophy hunters. HOWEVER at times I will be on the other side of the fence where if it's brown without nice horns, its down, Why does it seem like I'm talking out of both sides of my mouth ya ask? Cause 50 miles separate the first part in Z5 (I understand Jack) and the second part where the herd need to be thinned out.:fudd: If it's not done by hunters, then the farmer will thin them out and at least this way a few people get to shoot and the meat will not go to waist. [tasty]

I just wish there was a way to relocate the deer from one area to the other, But no one is willing to pay for that.:sour:

I'm right in the middle. Some spots in my zone are noticeably hurting (the woods and rural areas) whiles others seem to have quite a few (in town and around the subdivisions)

Location, location, location...whether you know how to hunt or not.

As long as you aren't on the side that is complaining and then shooting the only deer you see. I've seen more than one post where a guy is complaining he has not seen any deer for over a month, and then has one doe come in so he shoots it. Don't make much sense to me. If you have so few deer that you only see one in a months time, you might not want to shoot it but if you do, don't complain next season.
