My first ever winter bow kill. Latest I ever shot a doe was 12/31 and I usually am targeting a good buck in January but this spot consistently had a very high doe to buck ratio all season and I earned her sitting in 17 degrees and 30mph gusts. 9 deer came in at 5pm last two were spikes. Hard to get the deer to hold still but eventually one presented a 8 yard heart shot which the autopsy confirmed. She trotted 20 yards and fell over very easy drag

I was dressed so warm I could have sat all day in this big cedar tree despite the brutal conditions - but it was as short walk to the stand, and didn't break a sweat. The keys to this hunt were my Kamik Ice fishing boots, Cabelas ECWS thermal base layer, a wool sweater, a goose down vest, a hand muffler with one hand-warmer in the center pouch, fleece gloves, a very heavy fleece neck muffler, a warm stocking cap, and a fleece head and neck cover to again cover the head and neck.... A cabalas quilted winter camo jacket and pants sealed it all in... The beauty of a goose down vest is that it doesn't restrict your arms for drawing and releasing the bow... I also recently shot my bow dressed like this to make sure I was up for the task...
