Like most posters I am trying to find out what is happening here. I cannot quite pick up from the media what is going on. Certainly the idea of sending the principals back to prison for a longer term after they has served the original sentence seems odd. Also the media seems to be framing the dispute in a manner that precludes any kind of rational investigation. Their use of the term "militia" is inflammatory and prejudicial. I wish I could find out from a reliable source exactly what led up to this standoff and what the salient issues are.
Finding out what set this off is very easy.

Just listen to what the MSM is reporting and believe the exact opposite! And there you go the truth.

The term Militia is being used used because The the lead group is a Well Known Militia. The reports say They have a agenda besides this incident to bring attention to their own causes, The one farmer is giving him self up to FINISH his 5 Year sentence , not additional. again what's the truth. ?? Let the dust settle then maybe some truth will come about Waco and Ruby Ridge was never settled as far as the truth being believable, In the Meantime Read The Story of The Lone Trapper it has bearing on this as for Government against one Person

Please do not compare a peaceful protest to riots looting and burning stores and cars. As far as I can tell nobody burnt anything or damaged anything here yet. Nobody called for the National guard to shoot people in Ferguson. Montel Williams wants the National Guard to shoot them)

Media adjectives and treatment for:

Militia = crazy, extremist, insane, trigger-happy, "right-wing", emotionally disturbed, potentially violent, unhinged, confrontational

Occupy Wall Street & Black Lives Matter = thoughtful, reasonable, respectable, peaceful, protesters, "just cause", understandable, non-confrontational

If I was in charge .....

I would tell these people to leave, one time. One time only. Then .....

The protesters in Chicago that were stopping people from shopping on the big Christmas shopping days? .... I would tell these people to leave, one time. One time only. Then ....

The punks at the Bundy ranch standoff in Nevada last year, where they put their AR15 rifle sights and scopes on the heads of the various law enforcement personnel ... I would not have even asked once.

Maybe some day we will have a law and order president with integrity. Mayor of Chicago, too. When the leaders in charge are creampuffs, jerkoffs take advantage.

This isn't a case of double jeopardy. The original sentence (which was handed down by a Judge on his last day on the bench and which he knew was unlikely to be upheld) was appealed and found to be violative of the governing statute. The Appellate Court reversed and remanded and the required sentence was imposed. They are now surrendering themselves to perform their remaining time. I have zero doubt that this came as no surprise to the Hammonds as their lawyer must have told them on day 1 that this was not going to be upheld on appellate review. If you can't do the time don't do the crime.

As for these slack jawed freedom fighters, if you occupy a Federal Building - of any sort - you are breaking the law. The Hammonds don't want their support, the town does not appear to want them there and they will accomplish nothing. Obama doesn't want another Waco or Ruby Ridge, for good reason, and is slow playing his hand. I leave how to deal with them to the authorities, but ask yourself what you would be saying if it was a muslim organization that occupied a federal building while armed.

I hear you, but we don't need to make any more martyrs for the lunatic fringe. It's a tough call, if you go in with a battalion sized element the chances of things going sideways are astronomical. If you try and ignore them/wait them out you make it seem as if the rule of law doesn't apply. My guess is it's pretty damned cold in that building and they'll get tired of dumping in spackle buckets pretty quickly!

In 1775 about 15% of colonists, the lunatic fringe, were willing to use force as a last resort in the face of government overreach. By 1783 only 15% remained loyal to the crown and fled to the Caribbean, Canada and Florida. Now I hope this all ends peaceably, but isn't it funny what taking a stand can do for popular opinion, huh?

From the Alamo to civil rights in the 60's, it's part of the American DNA. It makes us who we are and tends to remind Gov't that it's the people who ultimately hold the power...

Strange. I havent seen those adjectives in any news reports about the situation in Oregon. Did you just make this up?

You're right. I've just lost patience .... I'm fed up

With all the complicated problems our nation is facing both here and abroad .... we have to put up with idiots like Bundy and Al Sharpton .... "black lives matter" folks and punk anti-government "militias" .... Pres Obama and Fox News Channel .... etc etc

(Though, I still say ... if you aim rifles at the heads of law enforcement personnel like the Bundy crowd did in Nevada ... you go down hard. But, they completely get away with it. [mad] )
