Had this deer come in my taxidermy shop last night.. shot in tewksbury.
The kill shot was a slug through the rib cage.
The deer was also shot by at least 2 others. You can see the slug hole through his main beam that also grazed his ear... along with numerous buckshot pellets I found in the body.
Now, whoever shot at this deer (and others who would have taken the same shot) should read this and take it as a lesson learned.
The buckshot barely pent rated the skin. A few pellets were found just under the skin leaving black and blue marks on the meat. They were found in the chest, shoulder, and back of the neck.
Your shots were too far. Please don't spray and pray. It's not fair to the deer.
As for the slug in the antler....
Just because your new scope is 0-300 on a bench doesn't mean you should try it freehand..
I'm amazed how someone could hit this deer in the antler. You are probably taking shots you shouldn't be.
Think twice before pulling the trigger guys, these are living creatures and we should do our best to put them down in a humane way. We wouldn't like to suffer, why make choices to make them suffer? For a big rack?? Not worth it.
Aim small, miss small.
Good luck!
