Where do I see them? Fredon, Branchville , colesville , walpack, wantage , Frankford , stokes and on and on. And cats have VERY weak wind pipes so gotta be careful
When realeasing them, little to tight on the catch pole and you've got a felony on your hands, ha literally.

I see bobcat quite often on my property in which I live on. I have several videos and many trail cam pics. I see them 3 - 5 times per year on average over the past 15 or so years. Kind of surprised to hear guys talk about it like its something new... I'm not to vocal with my sightings because a forester told me a while back that DEP has been known to put land use restrictions on private property because of things like that. Bobcat, coyote, weasel otter and other critters are commonplace where I live.

That's well north of Interstate 80, no? Just like the bears there are a lot more up that way than here.

The law this year states if a cat is caught ,you must call fish and wildlife and someone will come out and release it or tag it and release it. The problem is that they have to stay in that snare longer than if you were to release them. The northern part of the state is over run with them. More in places than foxes, but that doesn't mean a thing. You trappers will never have a season with our cats. Sad but true

Ok, I will just carry a sheet of plywood in my snare bag. Releasing an animal from a foothold trap is way easier than a snare that is skin tight from around an animal.
I have found no footage online yet with a snare release. Any help would be appreciated folks

Well this it what I did several years ago, caught one right behind my house,so I was able to release that one with a catch pole. Caught another on watershed property years ago in oak ridge,no catch pole. Walked up to the cat talking to him in a low voice,I had already emptied my packbasket and walked toward the cat, with the basket, actually placed the basket over the cat and he calmed right down. Now with the cat sitting under the basket I was able to pull the snare to the edge of the basket and cut loose the snare. This snare had a washer lock on it. Its very important to cut the snare inside the lock or it may not pull off. Not sure if I could do this if it was neck snared but this one was body snared. Now the cat was loose sitting under the basket. I stepped back a few feet and the basket rolled over, for an instant the cat sat there looking at me. Then took off as fast as could be. Wish I had a camera that day. Since then I have had a few friends that have released them in PA the same way. The cat becomes very docile when it is under the basket,

Cat populations have exploded in recent years, north of rt 80. I've seen plenty incidents of overlapping territories.
I'm willing to bet there are now just as many cats as red Fox on my trapline.
Since cats are now showing up, below rt. 80...they should multiply like crazy in the Fox rich central Jersey area....for the same reason the Fox are there.
It is time for a season !

problem with the bobcat is its not a game animal, the state will not come up with a # of animals they are looking for. What makes a species endangered????? When is it when you can say we have a sustainable population? No population survey,no idea

I have been seeing a family of three bobcats for about three years now. I had them on camera several times over the years and saw them all together a few weeks ago. Mom was stout! This is in Warren County zone 5.

I've been getting this big fella on my cam out in PA all fall. Trapping for them opens December 19th. There is also a separate gun season for them as well. Tag costs 5$ after purchasing your furtakers license. One tag per person per year.
