I saw a post on Facebook where a couple of local clubs in Cumberland & Salem county combined for a total of 100 bucks. A few racked bucks that were decent but about 90 percent were little 1.5 yr old scrubs. Many off WMA's in Cumberland and Salem county. Double Oaks, Mauricetown, Short Horn and Deerfield clubs.

Dont forget Venatores too. Prob the largest club in that area

had two bread vans and a truck loaded with guys drive by zone 21 first thing in the morning. They drove but it was far away could barely hear them yelling
I also saw them. Looked like old yellow dhl trucks if it was the same guys. Looked like a bunch of old timers with double barrels and over unders which I thought was pretty unique.

A group of guys on river road out in harmony had a few good ones hanging. Don't know if it was Brainards or just a group of guys

For years clubs shot quite a few bucks during 6 day and yes most were 1.5 yr old bucks. But there were always good ones around and enough buttons to replenish the stock for the following year. It is the out of control unlimited that is taking it's toll couple that with predators on the rise makes for the stock not replenishing itself fast enough. I grew up around clubs and belonged to 5 point buck club in Whiting when it was still around. Saw some big deer and we always averaged about 10 bucks for the week. it's not the club hunter, gun hunter bow hunter it's the mismanagement that is the problem. A few years ago parts of South and north central NJ got hit hard with EHD yet bag limits were not adjusted or seasons shortened. That right there tells you the mentality of deer management or lack there of is in NJ. I don't think anyone has a problem with those clubs killing 100 bucks per say, but those same clubs have complained about buck numbers for the last 5 years and had terrible years then. But instead of saying hey let's stop we killed enough and save some for next year they went all out. Now if the numbers are not there next year they will be complaining again and have no one to blame but themselves. We all have to stop being all out killers and become conservationists for the future of deer hunting in NJ.

So John what exactly are you asking / proposing that NJ's deer hunters grow up and self regulate dream on buddy.

There is a heck of a lot more then that that has to take place and the devil is in the politics along with the details.

Is anybody up to changing the basic license format (It will take dealing with the state legislature and getting things passed just like Sunday bow).

Is there anyone who can and is willing to bring together the NJSFSC, the farmers,Foresters, the Div. etc. and define what they want?

It is easy to piss and moan about every change along the road but maybe this is the new normal the Div. wants for the herd do you even know what the goal is?

Is anyone asking the Div. WHAT ARE THE GOALS AND HOW WILL WE KNOW WHEN WE ARE THERE?

Is anyone asking do we need to allow the killing of 6 bucks a year? Yes I know very few do kill 6 but knowing that you can and that tags you paid for run out mid season probably is a BIG factor in many hunters harvesting a second or third deer they might not otherwise have shot, think about it.

Is anyone asking Is there a need for unlimited antlerless permits being used on public lands? Do we still need to be giving away al of the people antlerless deer or isn't it time the div. go back to getting paid for them?

The deer herd has been reduced to a lot less then it was 10 years ago everywhere in the state is the state doing surveys to see if there is native hardwood regeneration to a desired level (but this is connected to HOW / When will we know if we are THERE with herd reduction?

Who if not YOU John is going to ask those questions and get the ball rolling to change things do you even have a legislative guy?

John we already have started the ball rolling. We have a survey up and will be taking the results directly to F&G council and DEP commissioner Bob Martin. We have been inundated with emails from sportsmen/women who have had enough. We might not succeed this time but we are going to shake some trees

RDF this is a start. The division first needs to know hunters are not happy with what they are paying for. We will get that break down by zone at the end of the year but we need them to take it further and get the numbers from private land to public land on the harvest. This is a start we need to walk before we can run.

Most hunters want to kill as much as they can, that's why we are regulated. From what I have seen over the years if its brown is down. You got to get this deer management crap out of your heads, its all about bringing in enough dough to support these so called experts.
