8 Pt. A Day Late but I'll Take It
Long story short, I went out yesterday morning to my club. I usually don't hunt 6 day. It was my birthday so I wanted to see if I could get lucky again on the Monday of Buck Season and my birthday. I killed one of my biggest on this day. Well didn't score yesterday morning so I went to my local spot in the afternoon. I saw a "big" buck chasing some does but could not get a decent shot off. A few minutes later I saw a "smaller buck" trailing them. None of them came back before dark. I figured they were chasing does so they may be back in the AM. I sat in my stand and could barely see deer moving back and forth. At 9 I got out of my stand to see if they bedded in a deep ravine. I walked up to the first spot and pushed out a big doe. I was headed back to the truck and said to myself, take another look behind these cattails. Well a doe and buck jumped up and started to run. Luckily it was heavy cover and they didn't go far. I scanned the area but could not see the buck. I moved a few feet and caused him to move also. I had a 60 yd off hand shot with my slug gun and took it. He ran up and out of the ravine and then up another hill, a total of about 50 yds. I then saw him stop and topple backwards. I knew he was done. The Farmer came over to see what was going on and said "a 10 pointer just ran across the street" Well, not on my birthday, not the "big" buck, but I'll take it.
