I had a DUI back in January 2000 and had my license suspended for 6 months. Does that preclude me from getting a permit? If not how do I answer question 20 regarding a criminal offense?

I dont think dui is criminal, i am probably wrong, but for some reason I think it falls under motor vehicle violation.

Dui is a traffic offense in nj not a criminal one. I would say no

Say yes to everything. Just tell the truth. You will be ok. I am not exactly sure how question 20 is worded but I had a DWAI 20 yrs ago
And it did not affect me. Same went for Utah CCW. I just make sure I always say it. It almost kept me out of Canada once though. Because I forgot to tell them.

It will not affect your ability to get a permit and your answer to question 20 is know, DUI in New Jersey is not a criminal offense.

Depends on the department trust me some may deny saying you are a hazard to public safety. Apply , give correct information and hope for the best.

As others said it is a traffic offense in NJ, however it is considered a low level criminal offense in NYS and other states. Also multiple DUI's may be a different story even in NJ.
