My 870 shoots everything I ever put in it.. I really liked Winchester Platinum 400 gr they stopped making them so I bought the Winchester 385 grain they still shot great. I picked up a Box of Remington Accu Tips as usual it shot those great too.. So my 2 cents try the 2 3/4" Accutips

My thoughts? ... a "rifled choke" is pretty near useless. Shoot foster slugs because 90% of the barrel is smoothbore, and you'll fill the choke grooves up with lead quick enough. The lead slug will go screaming into the lands and likely scrap straight through most of the choke before "some" spin is introduced. Shoot sabot slugs and a few inches of rifling isn't going to spin the projectile properly. Unpredictable pitch & yaw down range quite possibly the result. In either case it's likely a 75 yard and less range limiting factor.

I'm tempted to say "ditch the rifled choke, put an improved cylinder choke in, then test a number of foster or "rifled" slugs to see which groups best for your gun." Federal TruBalls ( Federal Premium Ammunition - Shotshell ) seem to be consistently superior in smoothbore barrels. I think it would result in a more predictable projectile and therefore better defined limitations for applying the shot in the field. Just the way I see it.

I don't know if you've shot something like this before. I hadn't 'till yesterday. My situation was a little different because I set up a rifled barrel and 385 grain slugs. I don't know how much difference it makes between the two.

Hold the hell on! It wasn't unmanageable, but it felt like artillery rounds to me. First round almost scoped me over my eyebrow and I whacked myself in the lip with my own thumb knuckle.

It was an absolute laugh riot, though.

like njpddet said your gun will let ya know.
