The forum has often has had many a new hunter or youth hunter that could use the help of some of the more experienced guys. My daughter and I have benefited from the generosity of Shootstraight, Doublelung, Ms Gr...(wait I don't want to be booted ) and several others. I've paid it forward and will continue to do so, especially for the kids.

Here's the BS....a friend of mine who we will call Captain Quint reached out to another member of the forum last year who had a kid that was looking to score on a deer for youth day but didn't really have a lot of luck thus far. He took him to one of his local spots where he has had good success before and really set the father/son pair up. He himself hunted in the area that day so as to be around should the kid score.

Long story short, the kid scored on a nice deer. Quint had his own chance with his bow so u know this was a good place to be. Unfortunately though, now the father and son know that as well. Low and behold, he gets a call front the guy today who "tells" him that they are settings up by his stand tomorrow for youth day. The dad or son hadn't talked to him since that day until now. Not a text, PM or call and now they are in the spot where he was looking to shoot his buck he had been watching.

Funny thing is that Capt Quint is a great guy and had the dad contacted him in advance he would have probably hooked him up somehow again. Its situations like this that make it difficult both as someone who is looking to help a kid or new guy out and for a parent of a kid who is seeking permission here and there at times to pay it forward or get access.

Seems like a poor lesson to pass onto a kid and is just freaking wrong. I hope a "snake" jumps up and grabs his ass.

That is just awful. Public land, nothing you can do, but what an awful lesson to teach the child. Everyone wants something for nothing. Situations like this is why we have participation trophies for doing absolutely nothing but showing up. [wallmad]

An All-too-familiar tale.... Say what you want but there's a reason some of us are so jaded ...because we've been down this road one too many times....

everybody has their hand out with some sob story or tale of woe...you turn around and try to be a nice guy and get it stuck up your ass....been through it with "heroes" "newbies" awe shucks kind of guys and so on....in the end 99% of them are all about one thing, themselves....

That's a fact. The idea of integrity is all but gone nowadays. Hunters should be able to do nice things for each other and never have to worry about crap like this.

I will continue to help out when I can. I have more fun helping kids and taking out people then I don on my own. I may join as a volunteer for education as to have the good feeling that comes with passing the words of wisdom on without the BS from above story.

that's people for you.

I have people sometimes Im not that close with ask me to get them into hunting and I usually just change the subject or start going with all the negatives (costs$$$, sleep, costs, sleep) so they don't ask anymore. We've been burned before with guys snaking spots and don't want it to happen again. It's a shame because I truly enjoy sharing my knowledge and watching others be successful but unless we are close friends, sorry can't do it but I'll show them what they need and what to look for but won't take or tell them of any spots.
