Myself and two trappers from Pa. stopped by this man's house to check out his trap collection.
My bear and moose guide in Stacyville called this guy in Sherman and asked him if we could stop over to check out some of his collection.
Awesome!!!! I've personally have never seen such an array of bear and wolf traps!!!
He has a very rare bear trap that is reportedly worth $37,000.00! That one is locked in its own safe.
Here are some pics he allowed me to take.

This got me thinking about the trap ban in this state - I googled to find more about it. Came across this article from almost 30 years ago - published in 1986 - reporting on the legal effort trappers were putting forth to try and roll back part of the ban. Get a load of this quote from the then president of the anti- group "Friends of Animals" (remember, from 1986) - she said:

"All our state and federal policies for wildlife are being set by the munitions industry and that's it," said Herrington. "We're doing our best to get trappers out of business. The situation is just drastic, and time is of the essence now. There will be no wildlife left by the year 2000 in this country unless we do something."
Riiiiight. No wildlife left IN THE COUNTRY by the year 2000 - which was only 14 years in the future at the time she said it. She was "just" a bit off. And these are the people our past politicians (current ones, too?) actually listened to. :screwloose: No wonder our state is the way it is now. [eyeroll]

Sorry for hijacking the thread - now back to our regularly scheduled program...

I'm adding up all the fines he'd owe if he lived in this state - I think I'm up to $50,000
If you could establish yourself as an "educational organization" (ie. an educational conservation museum), you might get by under the sole exemption to the prohibition on the mere possession of leghold traps in NJ ...

NJS 23:4-22.5. Allowable uses and possessions
This amendatory and supplementary act shall not be construed to prevent the use of steel-jaw leghold traps for the purpose of exhibition by humane or educational institutions and organizations, or the possession of such traps by a person in the act of turning over the traps to a law enforcement agency.
