Nice, you eat those sunnies. I tried once but they are boney as all hell and not worth the trouble for me. My favorite freshwater fish to eat is largemouth haha even thou people are totally against it. I leave the big ones thou....

and that is why you take kids for panfish for a first fishing trip!
Catch em up like crazy for 45 min. to an hour them say "How BOUT WE GO FOR ICE CREAM?!" fast paced and all positive.

What lure were you using? When I take my kids out I use a bumblee patterned fly and a blue and white syickbait. The kids love sunfish. My daughter is intent on catching a snapping turtle. One day I just might let her, but then I'm gonna make her clean it lol.

Marine corps knife/ bayonet works great on turtles. Amazing how warm it has been.

1/32 oz leadhead jig and 1" twister tail. I caught 49 turtles this year and 89 last year. Biggest was a 20 lb snapper. Snapper soup is delicious. They can't resist my homemade corn meal bait.
