Headed out mid week to hunt with my buddy Larry.
We had put a bunch of cams out in September on ridge pinch points and good pics of 4 shooters.
Both friday and saturday i had a 135" 8 point under me I passed hoping to shoot a big ten.
During the rain saturday i hung a new stand with high expectations of hunting sunday.
When rain stopped i jumped back in another stand for the afternoon.
I had the big 8 come into 20 yards passing on him again, then an hour later i grunted in another 8 prob around 125" to six yards.
With about 20 minutes left of shooting light i saw the side of a 10 point on the horizon.
Could see he had heavy bones ,but was not the 10 I had been hunting but another nice deer.
I grunted and bleated with my can.and the buck came in as fast as a deer could run the 350 yards between us.
As he was flying passed me i grunted and he stopped giving me a small window to shoot slightly quartering to.
I snaked the arrow through into his opposite shoulder , he ran 60 yards and went down.
Walked up to him and got a pit in my stomach as while heavy horned he was very narrow, and should have been passed.
Bitter sweet doing everything right on the wrong buck.
And losing my opportunity to harvest the one I came out here to chase.
Was a ton of fun the last few days seeing the crazy chase action thats only going to get better.
Hope my buddy bags the other 10 so I can see him on the ground.
