Congrats Dan. Looks a lot like the heavy horned 10 I got in Ohio last November 20th. Snuck in behind me went by at 8 yards all I saw was heavy high 10 and put him down. A little disappointed it was only about 14.5" on the inside. Still a great hunt and I didn't have to freeze my ass off anymore.

Nice buck......pit in your stomach?
For sure. I had been passing bucks that were bigger all week trying to shoot a 160 I had on camera.
Low light.and a quick moving deer I made a fast judgment he was better than he was. If I had a little more time to judge him I would have passed him for another year. While still a nice buck he wasn't what I was after which was a minimum 150 as I don't have many places to get that opportunity.
And I still had plenty of time to continue hunting the other deer.

Bitter sweet knowing I waited all year to now have to wait another for the chance at a dream

,
Been there done that quite a few times. It's bittersweet only for a little while, then you get over it and after a little bit of time passes you become more aand more comfortable with the deer you harvested, then starts the day dreaming, planning and looking forward to your next season back in that magical far away land, then the whole process starts all over again.... It's a beautiful thing!

Congrats. When trophy hunting you have to be able to make quick decisions. Sometimes there good and sometimes not so good . Nothing wrong with that deer . 150 is a big minimum, and hard to calculate especially when the deer is running through the woods. Its hard coming from NJ to the Midwest looking for a 150. Most guys from NJ have never seen a 150 class buck. Its a pretty respectable animal. I have a big one I been after for 2 seasons now. I saw him once last year and twice in 15 minutes this year at 40 yards. I hesitated on the shot and he's gone. I may never see him again

I remember when I hunted with an Illinois Outfitter and he gave us the scoring test. He had 3 or 4 racks on the wall and asked us to score them. We were way off. Some of the lower scoring deer were judged better and vice versa.
