Hi all,

I recently moved to Princeton, NJ from Louisiana after finishing school. I grew up duck hunting in flooded rice and timber in Arkansas as well as the swamps in Louisiana and am looking to get on some Atlantic Flyway fowl. I have checked out a few of the WMAs before work this week (it is baffling to me that you can't hunt Sundays up here...) and have seen a few birds and some major potential. Right now I just have my waders and calls but I am closing a deal on a 12 ft Nucanoe and ordering some new deeks.

Any advice y'all could lend on the birds up here or some areas to check out would be greatly appreciated, and if any of y'all are looking for another hunter I'm always up for some gunnin'. [up]

Cheers,
JM

welcome, most here are not like in other states (helpful) I hope someone PM's you and helps you out but a lot of guys are very protective of their hunting spots in NJ.
I lived in NC and had more places to hunt than time to hunt them (very helpful there) . There certainly is a good group of guys mixed in with a few pains in the a-- on here good luck.

I don't know if this is true. I don't think I've hunted somewhere where people weren't protective of their spots, especially public land. A lot of work, money and energy are spent trying to get on birds and it can all be gone the instant you start running your yap.

OP, welcome. I will send you a PM with some general info to help you out. What town in Louisiana did you live?

I've hunted in several states and NJ is the only one north of the mason Dixon that I've hunted. The southern states are just as protective of their spots, some more so than NJ. Duck hunting is all about location so no one is going to give away their spots.

To the OP, welcome to jersey and the site. Just like anywhere else if you put some leg work in you can kill some birds in this state

Welcome and there is some good areas to hunt for ducks. I myself am not a duck hunter but can direct to you to some local areas that hold them and know where guys hunt them on WMA. Where are you located? Shot me a pm and we can chat and see if I can point you in the right direction. Not everyone in NJ is a Jersey Jerk and many on this site look to help fellow hunters so don't mind some. But it is true that NJ is really New Germany when it comes to living the outdoor life. Still some great hunting to be had.

SS!

Welcome to NJ!

Even though it is a small state, Princeton is a little far for me to be of any help. But I will say that if you can get out on weekdays you may have better luck, as us weekday guys sometimes could use a little company in the blind.

Good Luck to you,

PS. when you get your breakfast sandwich on the way to your spot remember it is called Taylor Ham not Pork Roll and don't let anyone tell you any different [smirk]

My condolences.

First thing I tell gun owners that are new from out of state - READ THE NJ FIREARM LAWS (2C:39 and 2C:58 to start). It's no joke, if they are willing to arrest and jail a young mother with two kids just because she had a handgun in her car but didn't know her CCW license wasn't good here in NJ, they will arrest anybody for the most minor infraction.

You have been warned.

Welcome but you made a mistake
