Perhaps not but in all my zone 5 spots it seems that way. I never saw a season look so promising turn so bad so suddenly. The October lull for me started 9/22 and has not yet let up. I have been hunting zone 2 more because I see a lot of deer there and came very close to taking a big8. Historically my best Z5 hunts have been hunting natural food sources like acorns and apples. Banner year for both. I am enduring my6th deer-less hunt in a row on a big acorn ridge a few miles from home. Nothing. I sat in perfect conditions after storm last night near 4 big apple trees with the ground covered in apples. Nothing. Trail cams only get the same two little dink bucks once in a while. I admit- I am confounded. Maybe I just suck or lost my game. Some of you may recall the crop of bucks I had in August on the minerals. Have not seen or got a pic of them since before 9/22

I remember when my buddy first bought this 52 acres in 2006. You couldn't even get down at 10 there were so many deer eatin acorns. Now it's like walking on marbles to get to a stand so many acorns but no deer. its almost 8am and I am ready to get down already. It has gotten incrementally worse each year and we take maybe 2 deer a year off this spot.

So many acorns this year they're not touching them in 21 or 23.however they're already scraping heavy and running does and sparring.i already told sjhunter get in them scrapes leave them does alone curiosity always kills the cat.failproof tactic sgs walls don't lie get in them scrapes they ways come in to them

Zone 5 and the top of zone 7 have slowed considerably in the past 3 weeks. I have a great spot where i hunt over apples (a small field full of apple trees) and the deer aren't even touching those apples at all. The ground is covered in them. My other spots are full of white oaks, with so many acorns falling that it sounds like it's raining. And guess what? Not a damn deer in any of those spots in nearly 3 weeks now too. Different spots. Different zones. Same result. Hell, i hunted a heavily used trail that leads to a soybean field last weekend and not a damn deer followed it to the soybeans that night. When i walked out in the pitch dark there wasn't a single deer in the field. I've never seen it dry up this badly before

Jack....besides lots of acorns, how is the bear population over there? My Z2 spot was lethargic until the bears moved on. I've had over 20 deer already this morning, six being bucks. Was thinking about checking out Z1 this afternoon but now not so sure.

There are a good amount of bears around here for sure. I was seeing deer galore for the first few weeks of the season though, took a nice doe, passed on a few others, had plenty of chances. And then it was like someone flipped a switch. No deer anywhere
