To all my local South Jersey Hunting Peers: Wharton State Forest Road Closure Meeting Monday 9/14 @7pm at Bass River Township Hall. We need as many local residents to attend THIS meeting on this particular night. I encourage all friends who enjoy ANY type of forest activity to PLEASE ATTEND! I believe the DEP will be there and we are trying to rally as many supporters as possible. Due to a few individuals who are ignorant and destroying roads on state land, those of us who respect the land are being punished for their ignorance. Word has reached me they plan on closing Bass River State land as well. Please PM me if anyone needs more info! We need your support and voice! Please pass the word on if you cannot attend to someone who may be able to. If you cannot attend please sign this petition. This not only affects hunters, but anyone looking to enjoy our state land for a number of activities.
MoveOn Petitions - Restore Fair Access to Wharton State Forest

There's actually a whole group on a Facebook page called "SJ Boggers - South Jersey & Pine Barrens Off-Roading Guild" and all most of these guys do is rip their own trails through the woods, create the gigantic ruts that fill with an unknown amount of water, and leave their trash around. Ironically, they are complaining about the road closures is Wharton.

Remind the state at the meeting how much money will be lost due to all of the deer drivers not
purchasing a hunting license due to the road closures.

Wait, you bring up one good point to the road closures. [rofl]. Kidding kidding

Really? And who is posting this? 17 year olds? Its known ATV/off road is not allowed. There is a far larger majority who respect these roads. Where is the budget coming into play for patrolling? Why are they not patrolling now? Its another take take take from the tree huggers. Shame on anyone who agrees and I hope one day they take your "sport" away from you....Because they can.....

There are over 5000 people on the open trails NJ Facebook page against these closures. This was done with out any public input and at the backing of the PPA. Yes people abuse roads. That is the 1 percent of people who use state forest. The other 99 percent is law-abiding citizens. This whole plan has hunters, anglers, and non sportsman standing together to make sure their voice is heard. 5 towns have already passed resolutions against these closures. I grew up on these roads in the pines. I learned to drive on them. They have now closed stokes. If Wharton roads get closed every state forest in the state will have the same fate. They have already started putting gates up on wma roads that have been open since the wma was created with no notice to us the sportsmen who paid for the land to be a wma. Please show up to the bass river meeting and show your support for all users of state lands cause once they close they will never open again.

Amen and thank u!!! This is serious. People don't understand we need to unite for a general cause or not. Allowing things like this to happen only takes away from sportsman....Maybe one day they will understand this philosophy when hunting/trapping as well as other activities are taken away.......Where have they been trying to resolve this issue for the past 30 years? Its a handful of folks....NOT THE MAJORITY!!!!

"Rut makin?" "Stealing mom's mini-van for the night?" This sounds too stereotypical to be real and smacks of a false flag operation by allies of the closures. But they'd never stoop that low right? [eyeroll] The people pushing for this are the Susan Kehoes of the world-remember that.

Don't shoot the messenger . Someone mentioned the page, I looked it up and took a screen shot. That's all .

I actually know a few hunters wanting this. Their reasoning is long haul better for forest.

What would be best is patrolling and punishment.

I can't believe people advertise they wheel in NJ.

When I was a kid there were only 1 or 2 areas.. thats it.

Sad really.

a lot of the damage is also being done by the "enduro" riders during the off season, then they come back and claim that they want to use the newly destroyed areas as part of their endure run. They claim that these newly destroyed are established trails. I've seen this happen over and over again, what is needed is better enforcement.
