If he was physically capable of drawing 35# he would have a real bow. If this is what I need to do to get him hunting then so be it.
I am in the same boat Mako...My nephew just turned 13 and want's to hunt. Parent's don't hunt so I took him under my wing. I took him with a 20 gauge last week and he did well. Also just bought, with his own money, a crossbow also. Shot very well out to 40 yards. I will have the pleasure of taking him out to Ft. Dix on 9/20 for his gun/bow test...no looking back now [up]

tell him to get a real bow. Shouldn't be allowed to hunt with a crossbow
bashing a young hunter....that's great. [down] why in your great wisdom should he not be allowed to legally hunt with a crossbow?? getting back to original post in this thread. congrats to dad and son. VERY COOL and thanks for sharing.

very cool gl to him this year! also, when i first started shooting a compound i couldn't draw back much either those muscles grow very fast though so with some practice i bet he could get it up to where it needs to be to hunt. nothing wrong with the crossbow though i shoot one too. gl!
