its from things like the "jersey shore" I live close to where that was filmed. that's NOT the jersey shore, that's just what we deal with every summer. I used to travel a lot for work, and whenever people ask where are you from, I DO cringe a little inside, then say New Jersey. The answer is usually "you don't sound like your from jersey". funny thing is, for this little state, there probably a dozen distinct different dialects.

Agreed. I still have NJ tags on my truck and I can't tell you how many times I've been asked what I'm doing here (in Arkansas). I should start charging a fee for the typical, "What brought you here? You're a long ways from home but you don't sound like I would have expected." I get asked near weekly about that, if I'm from near NYC, the jersey shore, where real housewives of NJ is, etc etc.

I make sure to specify I'm from southern NJ where's it corn fields, soy bean, and horsefarms, none of the junk they see on TV. I tell them I only make it up into northern NJ if I have a good reason :)

Being from south Jersey I would imagine you would fit right in with the slow paced, red neck atmosphere. Y'all come back now, hear?[lol]
Haha, yeah...I think we also fall into the top 10 states with the most couch potatoes..I may be indulging..

Shoot, I met a retired couple from west Tennessee near AR border while I was working in Missouri that were camping next to me. They were RV'ing across country to Alaska for 3 and a half weeks. They hand out little business cards along the way to people they meet and said we tell people if they are ever in Tn, wanna stop by, just give them a call and you will have a warm meal waiting for you and a place to crash. Kind of reinstills your faith in humanity that there are some good people out there.

That's some fine deductive reasoning you did. Yes, I'm aware those components exist up there....but we still don't have real housewives of NJ. ;)
Yes we do have real house wives in New Jersey .The real one's wash dishes ,make real meals for their family .And raise their children the right way ! God Bless these housewives for putting up with us !

Being by the shore area, the last two weeks have been the start of the migration from the northern cities. I HATE these people! They are rude, drive wherever the hell they want and have no manners whatsoever! The whole demeanor of the area changes when they get here! These are the aholes outsiders see on TV and thus the lousy reputation.

Over the years though we've entertained people from other states who came in with the predisposition that all of Jersey was a cesspool. It's great picking them up in Philly, driving along 195 with all the farmland and eventually end up at the Asbury/Deal beaches. You want to see amazement![eek] Then to amp it up by taking the parkway down to Cape May, Ocean City, even AC...a lot of beautiful places. Just don't talk to the people![hihi]
