Went to my local police station to get my FID card address changed. Got my card 2012. Moved in town, not out of town. And they are telling me i have to go through the whole process again. Finger prints, background checks and this ridiculous wait time! F U New jersey. Your rules are getting on my last nerve![wallmad][wallmad]:nightmare::nightmare:[confused][confused]

What a scam. It kills me that with a change of address you cant just go to your new PD and have them verify proof of residency and issue the new card on the spot. This isn't rocket science. You already have a card issued to you! They act as if you are trying to get over on someone. The card is already issued. They should just verify your new residence with proof like the DMV does and issue a new card to the applicant. Its ridiculous.

Has something changed in the last few months? Change of address does not require reprinting.
The chief law enforcement officer gets to make that decision. Some towns require re fingerprinting, others do not. Depends on how anti American your police chief is.

No, the local PD does not get to make the rules and they cannot require additional forms or processes.

N.J.S.A. 2C:58-3(f) states: “There shall be no conditions or requirements added to the form or content of the application, or required by the licensing authority for the issuance of a permit or identification card, other than those that are specifically set forth in this chapter.”

Correct you are about the extra forms as per the law. But it's up to the Chief Wether he issues the card to you in the name of public safety, or how many times he chooses to take your fingerprints, or if he wants to extend your permits, or if he wishes to grant you an OGAM exemption. It's solely his decision, at his digression as per law. look it up and read it. On www.NJSP.org

He can't however force you to fill out extra paperwork beyond the state's forms. Some towns require re fingerprinting every time you apply for a P2P a handgun. Some towns want new prints if your last set was more than 2 years ago. They are within the law to require that every time you apply.

No you don't have to get refinger printed
You don't if you live in my town. But other municipalities can require it. It's at the discretion of the chief LEO of each of the 500 some odd municipalities that make up NJ. They can require re fingerprinting every time you fill out the paperwork if they want to. It's written into the state law that way. Research it if you don't believe me. I have. I'm willing to bet lunch on it. (BTW I really love steak sandwiches so pick out a good place to take me)

The links to the information you're providing false information on are on this Web page. Title 13 chapter 54 as well as chapter 39 outlines the law.
