I'm seriously considering buying a youth Remington 1100 LT 20 gauge for my daughter. Not seeing a lot of cantilever slug barrels for it and I am not looking to buy multiple guns. Am I missing something? No problem finding a barrel for my 12 gauge 1187.

Not necessarily looking to buy the barrel today but I don't want to buy the gun and then have a problem finding the slug barrel later. Do I have a better chance finding a cantilever barrel for a different youth semi?

buck, consider an 870 20 ga. with a youth stock for the youngster. Inexpensive, minimal recoil, dependable, cantilever barrels readily available. Hornandy makes reduced recoil slugs for recoil sensitive shooters. As she grows you can replace the youth stock.

I agree the with the Rem.870 or any other pump gun a youngster will learn to take the correct time
between shots. With a gas gun U get bang bang bang.

You can find them but you need to hunt for them. Hastings makes a barrel for them too but big $$. For the kid I ran buckshot thru the gun and kept the shots under 30 yards. 1100 feels nicer on recoil than 870, but it does come with a cost. If I was looking to setup kid with rifled barrel I would just buy an H&R ultra slugger youth model. HR Ultra Slug Youth Shotgun-418203 - Gander Mountain

Ok for a female youth Hunter you said? With a slug? First it depends on how big n strong she is. I have 2 daughters. One is bigger/stronger n older. She can handle a heavier gun. She shoots an 11-87 youth. Advantages are obvious for kids. Reduced recoil. My younger one is very tiny. She shoots an old youth pump. I wish she'd shoot a semi but she can't take carrying it around so she shoots a pump or a 28 ga pigeon I cut down some.
Felt recoil is very obviously a bigger problem for some kids n less in others. Stance and form are critical in lessening the affects of the recoil. So the pump semi thing shoud be figured as to what works best for her not someone else's kid.
If you're up north pm you can let her try a couple.
Cantilever slug barrel? Hmmm lots of guys do this. Bad idea. How far is she gonna be limited to shooting? 30-35 yards? I don't allow my kids to let em fly but that's me but hear me out.
In order to shoot longer distance you do need a slug. This is where things fall apart., to shoot slugs you need practice. Practice w slugs hurts kids. You also need a good rest. Do you find em at every hunting spot?
Now you can use a lead sled while practicing, you can sit in a blind with some sort of cradle but you still need decent chance to pull it off.
Buckshot is what I feel is best for kids. They can practice w light target loads. Only loading buckshot during the hunt. They don't need to know it kicks a tad harder. You can pattern gun n keep it all to yourself. She can hunt with no negative feelings.
I've tried talking to lots of kids missed shots w slugs, tried talking kids back into trying a light 28 after slugs made em decide computer games were less painful,
Up to you bud. Just think bout what I'm saying. Some kids take right to it n some need growing. Don't take a chance of scaring her w slugs just yet if she's young
Check her eyes for dominance before you buy her a gun

Trying to think long term. The 1100 youth I am looking at for $500 used would be nice if she can handle it but because it's an 1100 and not an 1187, its harder to find matching barrels and limited to 2 3/4" shells. That's all well and good for now but if we ever wanted to shoot slugs from it, I have concerns. We also own a Rossi so I'm think we could always turn that into a single shot slug gun if I buy the rifled 20 gauge barrel.

I don't think she is ready for slugs right now. Again, I'm kind of just planning for the future given current purchases.

By the time she's really going to be ready to shoot slugs, you can probably put a full size gun in her hands. I agree with the above advice, keep her on buckshot for a couple more years. Could always shoot a rifled slug out of a smooth barrel with an improved cylinder choke to see how she handles it, before you go shelling out a chunk of change on an expensive rifled slug barrel. Put a set of fiber optic turkey sights on the vent rib and see how it shoots open out to 50 yards.

Midway USA has them, made by Hastings.
Nope, Midway doesn't carry Hastings barrels. I wish they still did. Finding a used one will be difficult, and expensive, but not completely impossible. Its a shame, because shooting those 2.75" Lightfields out of the 1100 LT-20 makes for some relatively soft shooting. Good luck.

Problem is that noone has got that barrel available. Check every website I could find. I'm gonna pass on the 1100. I'm now looking at paying for the 1187 new or used knowing she can shoot buckshot out of it in the fall or the mossberg 500 bantam. She's a tough kid and can handle recoil well. I slipped her a few 3" nitro mag bird shot and she didnt really notice the difference. Her grandfather wants to buy her the first big kid shotgun (upgrade from single shot Rossi) but I can't expect him to shell out that kind of cash. He has me doing the search. I'm gonna post the search here.
