Went out to a new farm and after picking some old turkey hunters brains, I knew where to set up. Great morning as the full moon was still up and the gobblers began to gobble about 150 yards from me. I thought all is good till they flew down and went away from me. So I just enjoyed hearing all the birds wake up and every once in a while, I would here the gobblers. Sat tight and around 6:15am they began to make there way back through the open hardwoods as I sat on top of a ridge with a pasture behind me. Before you knew it four gobblers were just gobbling thier heads off in various directions. Well after some sweet takling with my mouth call (or as my buddy calls it ,the sound of a whoopiee cushion LOL!) I get one gobbler to commit and he is on his way gobbling up the ridge then silence. I shift my position to where I last heard him but no gobble needed since he sounded like a bear coming through as he broke sticks and before you knew it, he comes over the crest of the ridge and is at 8 paces from me. I look at his white head and let the 870 bark and man did the winchester XR Long Beard #5 do a job on this long beard! I got up walked over to him only to find a awesome long beard[up] He was a heavy bird tipping the scales at 22.56 with a 9.5beard and one inch spur and the other a sharp dagger at 1 5/8. Great morning and thanks to GG for the advise on the set up and now time to work on my calling, so I don't sound like a whoopiee cushion LOL! Good luck to all who are still out chasing the Dirty Birds!! Si, now it's time for a Corona. Happy Cinco de Mayo[drinking]
At home with my gobbler and my Rylee who loves when I bring game home and rewards me.
Talk about pricless and people ask, why do you hunt? Why would you not.
