Your registered ATV is allowed to ride from one private piece of property to another on the shoulder of the road, but does not give you the right to ride on publicly owned property. Most ATV riders use the excuse "well the State allows me to by it here, the State should give me a place to use it." You can also by condoms legally, don't ask the State to provide you a place to use them either. Just obey the law weather you like them or not.
Under Title 39 this is true... IF your Farmland assessed, and are using it for FARM purposes. I AM, and ride on the roads around the Farm, ALL the time. The TROOPERS around here recognize this and don't bother us. We're also just puttering from Farm to Farm on 4X4 quads. Let a 2 wheel drive racing quad rip past then, and they would be on him right away.

I think ultimately it comes down to DON'T buy toys you don't have a place to play with. That is as stupid as stupid gets. I have a tiny yard and nowhere to drive a quad. Lets buy one and rip up someone else's property! Well damn, Junior went and broke his arm when he fell off. Guess I'm gonna sue this guy who's property I'm trespassing on. What a joke. I'm so sick of idiots with "I do what I want" mentality's. Stiffer fines and impounding the atvs sounds like the smartest thing they could do.

Under title 39 there is no restriction as to the type of private property you need to ride from or to, just that you have to e able to legally ride on both. Most LEO,s don't fully understand the regulations involving ATV's, thus they sometimes act inappropriately.

im a happy camper seems as if C.O. just happened to pull up on a group of riders on Berkshire valley rd in Jefferson they got nailed finally but it hasnt been the 1st time for them getting caught. It has been a regualr thing for them as the 1 C.O. told me the Officer patroling this area has a zero tollerance for this activity and will aggressively respond to any complaints as i was pulling away it seems as if dad was getting searched hands up spread out against car. SO big thumbs up to the officer for catching them
WOW last 3 years they screwed up my turkey and deer especially bear hunts. I grew up riding.Started when I was 5.Go carts,my father took me to the midget track in pine brook and watkins glen. When older yes I illegally rode many bikes on powerlines and pipelines.BUT NEVER through hunting grounds.Three years I hunted this particular area by long lake, wasn't only, bikes also the occasional 4 wheeler and they would go off the trails
I guess you and the c.o. Officer have no kids that ride atvs. To me as long as your not riding across people's yards and they are on trails I don't see the big deal.
.It's a wildlife managment area don't even think horses are allowed but they would stay on the trails these kids 15 to 40 did/do not!!
They should impound the atv's & cycles when caught riding on public property.
signs everywhere no motor vehicles beyond this point
Enjoying and destroying are two different things.

To all the people bitching about atvs, get a life, calling the cops on kids? Classy.

One more waste of time and tax money. Would be great if they could go catch some actual criminals not familys having fun. ATV ridding is legal in most other states. Wish they got away.
In most other states they do not sue the state at the drop of the missing helmet because their precious little maggots got hurt on state lands. Given today's litigious society, could you please provide just what states and just what their rules are? New Jersey does not want to catch criminals as they are needed to vote early and vote often for scum like Menendez.

i have seen guy's come up to the newark watershed . with a trailer full of quads and they think this is all woods let us go ride are quads. kid's that live on the border of the watershed and state park . there parents knowing that its illegal . still go out and buy these quads and dirt bikes and think ok for their kids to trespass. i don't get it !

You don't get it cause you ain't trash. You think normal. Think about only you n what you want, screw the rules, you'll get it.

Families having fun illegally are still criminals. Trying to justify illegal activity shows your lack of morals which means your kid has none either. There are tons of activities to do that are legal-- pick one of them.

What part of illegal do these people not understand. By their way of thinking, if you only catch and release trout, you should be able to fish before the season starts, since you aren't taking any away from the rest of the fishermen.

I could see orv being used on WMAs but IMO It would have to be on established roads , the muffler silencers & a speed limit. One f up & your shit gets towed, storage fees til court date plus the tow & fines.

So you are okay that your kid would be breaking the law because YOU do not see it as a big deal. These kids do not want to just ride down a dirt road-- they want to dig it up, make their own paths through the woods, etc. If you believe they are just riding an atv on a dirt road then you are fooling yourself.
I would right next to them doing the same,I ride my atv in a state park as do a number of other people. Even if I made my own trails I don't see the big deal, the woods will grow back if it's not being used. But some people act like the woods will die by riding an atv through it. Like I said if people aren't riding across people's yards and stay in the woods I don't see the issue. I rather my kids ride the atv illegally then hang out at dunkin donuts,or doing drugs because they have nothing to do

So if the kid was stealing your lawn mower then it would be okay? Illegal is illegal no matter the age or illegal activity. You trying give people a guilty feeling by using kids as the excuse shows your lack of moral values. People calling the cops on these kids does a lot more good for their up bringing then knowingly letting them break the law as a parent.
So I guess you have never driven above the speed limit. It's the same principal your talking. I understand both sides but you can't say it's bad parenting by taking your kids riding just because it's on state or federal land. Not all people that ride rip it up all over, when I ride I just putz through the woods.
