Hi all,

I just applied for my FID card, but was denied because of a BB gun charge when i was 17.

The charge was dropped after being on probation and I did not realized that i was still considered a "Juvenile Delinquent".

I put no for if i was adjudged as a juvenile delinquent, but shocked to find out that i am.

I was denied the FID card and have filed my appeal to the Superior Court of Essex County and am waiting for a court date.

I spoke with my lawyer who told me what to include in the letter, but has anyone ever appealed their denial?

I am wondering what questions they will ask me in court?

I will be fighting this appeal on my own, no lawyer.

Thanks all for your help in advance.

No my lawyer didnt write my first post, I did.

I understand a BB gun is considered a long gun in NJ. The charges were drop as long as i kept my nose clean during my probation period, which needless to say I did.

I now have a great job and I am enrolled pursuing my masters in a university and I am an outstanding citizen of the community.

I just want to know what questions are asked in court during the appeal process so i can be ready.

Thank you.

Your lawyer should know all of those questions.

What EXACTLY were you told as the reason for the denial ?
The situation involved my little brother and i shooting a bb gun... my neighbors car was hit who called the local PD who arrested us for possession of a weapon.

Put on probation for a year. After a year the charges were dropped so i figured I was not a juvenile delinquent.

My fault for assuming.

Were you entered into a PTI program or did you plead guilty and do a year of probation? Big difference...
