I will be going for Elk in Wyoming and I wanted some input on what you recommend for up to 300 yards. I've narrowed it down to Barnes 140gr or 150gr TTSX because 160gr is unavailable or Nosler Trophy Accubond 160gr. Assuming my rifle likes both, what are your thoughts? Thanks

Buy small boxes work some loads up and see what shoots best.Thats the best advice i can give ya. If ya know the twist rate of the barrel that will tell ya if you can shooot the heavy bullets. All the bullets wil be more then enough to get the job done to twice that range.

Gave up on the 160 grain Partitions? Federal loads these as well as 160 Grain Trophy Bonded tips. As for the loads you've narrowed it down to, you can't really go wrong with either. Both will definitely do the job well as long as you do yours. Best of luck with your trip and don't forget to post the pics!

I believe the twist is 1 in 9 1/4. Its a Remington 700 BDL

Personally I have found the Accubonds to shoot fantastic out of all my rifles; 308, 30-06, 7mm STW, and 300 WM. I am able to shoot consistent sub 1" groups at 100 yards, and under 2" at 200 yards. Only ever shot my STW out to 300 yards, Accubonds were at 2.5". My 30-06, 7mm STW and 300 WM are all Remington's with factory barrels, the 308 is a Remington 700 action with an ER Shaw barrel.

I am not reloading or I could play around a little more. I'm going to start calling around but I don't think anyone locally will have any of it. If anyone knows of any, let me know.

I personally would go a little heavier than 140 gr. projectile in the 7mm Remington Magnum, when elk is on the menu & you have the distinct possibility of crossing paths with Ursus horribilis.

The Barnes bullets are stout in construction, penetrate deeply & have fantastic weight retention, but for the hunt your describing, I'd go with a heavier bullet for a little added "insurance".

Well if I tag out I'm going for bear. I'm leaning toward a 160g if my gun likes the Accutips. Cant find Barnes 160's anywhere.
