So I have a couple rifle I'd like to get scopes for but like to get some suggestions from those with experience so I don't buy something that's too much or not enough. I have 3-9x40 Burris and really would to diversify for varmint hunting, target practice, and long distance.

One is a Ruger 10/22 takedown that I'd like to use for small game and target while being able to use the iron sights as well. Don't want a scope that's too big or expensive but like quality.

Have a .270 that I'd like to eventually hunt with in another stae but in the meantime use at the range at 100-300 yds.

I've looked at some redfields, nikons, and Burris scopes but again looking for help from those with experience with other scopes...

The winter kills me so mine as well spend money I shouldn't...

My mantra has always been to buy the best glass money can buy within the range of whatever you can afford. I don't like to say that "brand X is crap", but too many hunters don't realize that your scope is often far more $$ than the rifle you are putting it on. Most buy their scopes as an afterthought. That said, the .22 won't require a big dollar scope.

The clearest brightest scopes are the nikons especially the monarch. I have Leupolds, zeisses and nikons and the nikons beat them all out with Zeiss a close second. Leupolds when compared to the others are horrible. I sold 2 already looking to get rid of the other one and get another monarch. If you are in or near monmouth county you can come look at them all and decide for yourself.

I have the Nikon P22 scope on my 10/22 it's an awesome combination! If your up north I'll let you shoot mine before you decide on what your getting.

Many great scopes out there, but dollar for dollar you can't beat Leupold
I've changed many of them. From Bushnell, Burris, Nikon...etc.
Right now I have Nikon 6-18x40 with BDC on my 22-250. Very decent scope. But I have to agree with BHC, if I was buying again, Leupold would be my first choice. Unless you can afford Swarowski, Leupold will give you the best return for the investment.

How much do you want to spend?
Im looking for the best bang for my buck for this 10/22. I'm not gonna spend more than $150 for it and would prefer to spend less since I need to get rings and a new base. I figure I'll have it forever until ??? I've gone the cheap route on many and a thing and the old adage holds true, you get what you pay for!

Cuzzin, no need to spend alot on a scope for the 10/22, there is no recoil.....Many of today's scopes are very good quality, from many scope makers......Once you find the scope you want, google for the best price on that make/model.....You be surprised at the price differences out there

For the 10/22 you cant beat a DNZ 1 piece mount --http://www.opticsplanet.com/dnz-dednutz-ruger-10-22-1in-scope-mount.html

My 10/22 is topped with a Bushnel 5x15 power scope -- I forget the model # but It's a mildot scope with adjustable objective -- It will focus down to 10 yards or so on 15 power making it an awesome hunting scope --- I have 4 of these scopes -- 10/22, muzzy, and 2 air arms airguns

Forgot to mention I own a few Leupolds too -- They are a great scope for the money
