Sometimes you hear those shots, bang, bang, bang, all fired in about a second. lol I imagine that it must be someone shooting buckshot? Could someone tell me what that is? bang, bang, bang, really fast and why? I don't remember the last time I had to fire two shots at a deer! Maybe there is some reason for it?[confused]

. That's what I am talking about. That's a brown & downer for sure.

While I am no fan of buckshot, if it used within it's effective range, it can be deadly. Unlike a slug however, deer struck with buckshot behind it's effective range, and some within, will leave little or no blood trail and not be recovered. IMHO
You have that right. Too many yahoos are always bragging about how they shoot deer at 100 yd with buck shot. The maximum effective range of buckshot is 40 yards regardless of the choke. Buckshot accounts for too many lost deer in the hands of these yahoos that have no clue about the ballistic performance of buckshot. They take these long shots, put 1 or 2 pellets in a deer then think they missed when the deer actually went several hundred yards before it bled out internally

Good to see some of you get it. So sick of this "don't give the antis more fuel bs!" There are plenty of jerkoffs on our side. Actually they are in their own league. They don't play for my team.

If you use buckshot in a effective and non careless manner it can be very deadly. Every deer i have shot with buckshot have all dropped in their tracks because i pattern my gun and i know what the max distance for my gun is. The buck in the pic was shot at 50 yards and he never moved a muscle. I had 11 pellets of 00 buck in the vital area.

So now buckshot hunters are bad? [confused] What group of hunters can we find to trash next? [confusedagain]
. I am talking specifically about the drunken shoot at anything brown you see regardless of distance trespassing gang that rapes all my private lands every shotgun season. The deer don't look like this until they start their routine. And it won't end until shotgun ends. Same crap every year. Did I say buckshot is bad for all? No I didn't think so. In the right hands and when practiced it's very effective. If you don't know the type I"m talking about them you are very fortunate.

When buckshot was the only means of ammo for deer in NJ, it was no where as effective as it can be today. Special chokes, premium shot, 3" and 3.5" magnums etc. make it a very effective means of dispatching a deer at moderate ranges.
I wouldn't give the technology of today too much more than it was in the past. All shotguns and chokes can shoot buckshot. How they throw it is what matters. My 1100 with a 30" full choke barrel throws today's Winchester Super X and Remington shells in the same patterns is threw back in '73 when the gun was gifted to me. The Remington 3" string out left to right quite a bit at 40 yards while 9 or more of 15 pellets are in a 9 inch pie plate with the Winchesters.

Its the nut on the trigger that should know the limits, but doesn't take the time to find them. Spitting in a crowd doesn't help either

Now everyone who shoots buckshot is drunk. Buckshot is a tool just like anything else. It has its place. The main problem is most people dont pattern their gun. Guys will spend hrs getting theirs bows or scoped guns dead on. But just throw in some 00 and go hunting. With the buckshot and choke choices today their is no reason why ur gun shouldnt pattern out to 50yds

Did I say everyone that shoots buckshot is drunk? NO... I am talking about a specific group, and they are drunk, and they all use buckshot, and its doubtful they ever patterned their guns. I am not making it up. Again - if you don't have this problem near you - you are fortunate...

I hunted pheasant on state land with a guy last year near the pheasant hatchery, My dog pointed the birds I flushed them and the guys Harris hawk tried to catch it, didn't get one but was cool to watch it dive on them.
