Governor,
I read you are considering changes to the way gun retailers are to do business to help keep their inventory from being stolen.
However, one part of the State Police proposal has nothing to do with this. They snuck in a re-definition of "semi-automatic shotgun" that is going to make currently legal owners immediately criminals by a swipe of your pen if you agree to this.
The proposal says,
"N.J.A.C. 13:54-1.2 contains definitions of terms employed throughout the chapter. Please reject this portion of the proposal. This will do nothing to reduce gun crime and will only make law abiding citizens criminals for no other reason than owning currently legal shotguns that happen to have now arbitrarily illegal features on them.
The law is already one evil feature for a semi auto shotgun. The state police code will now match the already written law. As it reads now it's one evil feature for semi auto shotguns, the state police code says 2 evil features. They are just fixing the contridiction between the two. If it were two evil features I could own a semi auto shotgun with a pistol grip and a detachable magazine. Instead we have saiga's with regular shotgun stocks.Be careful here! Keep eyes open. This all sounds "reasonable" - but the anti-gun folks slipped in a doozy here. They changed the definition of allowed semi-auto SGs and its possible thousands of current legal guns (some owned by people on this forum) will be made illegal by a swipe of Christie's pen if he doesn't scratch that from the proposal.

Ahhh... I was wondering why this was shoved in there buried with the rest. I hate this two sets of laws (admin code and statutes). I see it now where the 2C law says that it is illegal to possess "A semi-automatic shotgun with either a magazine capacity exceeding six rounds, a pistol grip, or a folding stock."The law is already one evil feature for a semi auto shotgun. They will never do that bro, that would make all us 2A guys smile. This is NJ after all... I would be buying some stuff if they did change it in favor of 2 evil features though. You know because my Saiga is so much less lethal with a rifle stock without a pistol grip lol... makes zero sense, cosmetic features BS to make our lives more difficult, that's all.Ahhh... My question then becomes - why don't they correct it going the OTHER way? Why not say, "one say two or more, the other says one or more. We correct this and change the "one or more" to "two or more"? Of course they would never do that - make a currently illegal firearm legal again.
Thanks for the heads-up. I copied your letter and sent it to the Gov. Hope it helps. We have to nip this in the bud now.
I sent the following via Office of the Governor | Contact Us
Consider sending something similar. They are continually attacking us by chiseling away little by little and they will not stop until even a single-shot .22 is made illegal.
Totally feel the same way....it's hard to trust any of these politicians....ever since the love hug with O [kiss] this guys been going downhill [down]
So, you want people who are on the FBI Terrorist Watch List to be able to legally purchase firearms?Forget Christie for a moment. It does not matter where the bill originates but where it stops. That Terrorist Watch List ploy is one of the most harmful and sneaky tricks I have yet seen inserted in what otherwise seems a boring bill to most legislators. Considering the number of people on that list already for, God alone knows what reason, I would not be surprised if there are already a number of NJ citizens on it whose first discovery that their name is on the list is when the NJSP yanks their purchase card. Whatever you think of the other parts of the bill, we had better wake up to this one.
