After a long week of bear hunting with not much to show for it, this evenings sit was an unexpected and successful one! Not having any activity since November 30th and hitting several spots, tonight I decided to sit for the last time at a bait barrel that more than likely would produce anything but it was as good as any other site I had. Settled in around 2:15pm and threw a lot of scent out in hopes a bear would visit the barrel. Not expecting to see much I just enjoyed the afternoon as I heard fellow hunters guns bark around me. At 3:28pm out of the blue a nice bear appears coming into the scents I sprayed and I could not believe it! I waited as the bear worked his way around the barrel and when he stretched out his left leg forward and was brodside, I let the TC 50cal encore bark and man did it d a number on him. Bear let out a huge roar and took off and made it only 40 yards and piled up. Made a call to my buddy who came out to help me recover the bear, which I appreciated[up] So a long week came to a great end and all the weeks of working these bears for a chance at them paid off. Love bear hunting and they are an awesome game to pursue but most of all my landowners are so happy to have one less black bear around. What a great end to this 2014 bear season for me.
Here is my black bear. It was a boar that came in at 134.4 firld dressed and has an awesome coat.
