I have read that lack of available food is what drives bears to den up, not temperature. Assuming this is correct, I am wondering what effect the predicted snowstorm on Wednesday night is going to have. The weather report I heard this AM was calling for 6" plus of snow for Sussex County. This can not be good for the upcoming hunt.
Will bears be denned?

at least bear A will be availible to hunt the first 3 days of the season !!
Sows w Cubs do den up early. That's actually the reason for the time of year we have a hunt. If you remember that was the states "compromise". In NY the code is you can't shoot Bears in groups, meaning more than one. That is a better answer. The sows may be away but the boars are in n out all winter. One warm day you see tracks in the snow. If the weather stays warm we'll see some, but I was seeing 6-8 a day all summer n fall. Haven't seen one now in weeks

keep the goodies coming they will be hitting the bait , the first year in 2003 had 12 inches snow on ground all week like 500 bears got shot that week....................
