had a great season this year. took off the first two weeks of November to hunt the rut as always, was following a couple of nice bucks 2.5 year old 8 points. past countless numbers of small 1.5 year olds all to wind up with the same little buck I sat through many mornings hunts with all September.he was a guaranteed deer to see he came through my area every morning like clockwork. A few weeks ago he disappeared. I chalked it up to the fact that the rut was about kicking in and he was exploring. well after 2 weeks of long stats and passing up like I said countless amounts of bucks you can only guess my surprise when he showed back up on my camera with an arrow in his shoulder, from that point on all efforts were put to knocking him down after two full days sits I connected with him. the little guy was in pain. shoulder was completely broken with a crossbow bolt sticking in the knuckle. it was a wasp mechanical not a rage. I watched him make his way to me from about 150 yards and took him at 8 yards. all in all I had a great year. I am happy with the outcome. Did I shoot the deer that I wanted to shoot No, but freezer is now full and any thing else would be just greed. I don't mind eating a buck tag and I don't mind burning one to do the right thing. With any luck all the deer in my area know this and they have a big guy set a side for me next year.
on one final note it would not be a buck post if I didn't mention that "he's not a monster" but I am still proud to say I did the right thing.
