You guys need to relax a little bit. Any single one of you would have gotten this same exact deal if it was your first offense.

Whether he loses his job or not is another question. I think some outrage is justified if he doesn't get fired.
That's Total B.S.
You telling me in I go into the local Best Buy tomorrow and walk out with a new TV without paying for it all I have to worry about if I get caught is paying for it plus $100 and take a B.S. class.
Either your #%$^$&%^* up or the system is $@$#%^ up!!!!!!!

No it's not, he's right. Tell me how many shoplifters you know who get jail time for the first offense? He should, and likely will, lose his job and be barred from public employment but the criminal punishment is in line with what anyone else would get.
I'm not saying jail time
It's the complete expungement that is B.S.
Basically he will have a clean criminal record (and probably his position as a trooper) after taking the B.S. class.

Same as anybody else as far as the clean record...it's called pti and most first time minor offenders get it
Tell that to Shaneen Allen

LEOs sworn to uphold the law should be held to a higher standard not the current double standard

Christie fixed a good number of things that was wrong in Nj imo bridge gate is f,d up but would you rather have a democrat in office defending your gun rights???
Ohhh, whoop dee freakin dooo!, he let me have 15 rounds in my weapon instead of 10, life is good!!! [eyeroll] He ONLY cost us millions of $ to defend his assinine scumduggery...Dem or Rep, doesn't make a damn bit of difference, a spade is a spade!

The point being that it's against the law to steal. It's the wrong mentality to say everyone gets off on the first stealing charge so why shouldn't a cop. It shows he is a POS

Definitely some cop bashing here. ..everyone gets off on a first shoplifting charge so why shouldn't a cop? He should b fired from force. Cops are held to a higher standard

Cops have to be held to a higher standard than the rest of us. They've taken an oath that the rest of us haven't. He should do some jail time, and be dismissed from law enforcement forever.

Ok So some want to change the law so cops are not eligible for pti regardless of whether or not its minor & the first offense. Not sure why but would it be just cops ,judges or all public employees??? Even dudes that work for the town dpw??? Not saying the law is perfect but what would be accomplished by spending more tax dollars on trials and probably jail for the ineligible for pti under your new law??? Just not getting it...

So who do you want in that office then? I go with the lesser of two evils ...you think a democrat wouldn't do dumb stuff and cost us millions of $? At least under Christie you still got a gun to put yr 10 rounds in. B careful what you wish for

As an admitted conservative (as most would describe it) the last thing I desire in office is a libDem! Unfortunately the fact of the matter is we are in a lose/lose situation...there are good, and sucky Dems, and good and sucky Reps...bottom line is we are screwed, blued, and tattooed no matter who is in office...they are all a bunch of lying, self serving, egotistical scumbags! Pretty much what you said, pick the lesser of 2 evils...unfortunately.

I am in Law Enforcement and I have to be totally honest, I agree with this statement. A person who is willing to do this is willing to do things that may jeopardize my Health and Safety out on the Streets.

You have to really question their integrity.

He was suspended from work for a year. That amounts to a fine in excess of over 100 grand. He was removed from the security detail he was on, and is washing helicopters100 miles from home. It is especially repugnant whenever anyone in the public trust runs afoul of the law
. He paid a heavy price for his terrible lapse of judgment.

Well, if you did it in NJ, you would probably pay a little bit more than 100.00 in fines. But yes, for a first time shoplifting offense (even for a TV as apposed to 250.00 in hunting gear) you would get PTI. You would pay a small fine and as long as you behaved for a certain time period (probably a year), it would be like it never happened.

As for the "system"....well..... that is what it is.

Ok, this post is eight and a half months old:026:. The officer in question lost his job, paid the fine and attended a shoplifting class. So stop typing and go check you deer stand and cam because he's most likely putting them in his truck while your reading this.

PTI is not available in NJ to the average Joe who steals $150 worth of stuff unless you get lucky and the Prosecutor fudges the value of the stolen goods upwards to make it a felony charge. Need a good lawyer or connections. Then, you can get off. Or just be smart and know that stealing more than $200 theft is required to directly Pass Go and NOT go to Jail.

That's a good point. In nj, you are actually better off stealing over 750 worth of goods to make it an indictable offense (we don't have felonies in NJ).
