The Divisions answer to the low numbers of bear being harvested is to hand out a cook book on how to prepare bear. This will be given out at the check in station in the hope to recruit more hunters during six day season. Stupid is as stupid does. What part of the facts do they not understand. They are going to try to appease everyone except the ones that matter the most ( US ) Next year they are giving out free frying pans. Give us something we can use . A New Season

Lets all call them idiots for not giving us what we want.

i want traditional black powder the first week in Nov.

i want private property to be choice of weapon all year but only 1 buck.

I want....

People are trying but the Current dates now that 6day has been moved forward a week is too late in the season for an optimum hunt. How about allowing weeklong muzzy bear hunt in Late nov?

They've been giving that cookbook out since 2010 along with a sew-on patch.
F&G needs to open up the bear hunt to include bow and mzl. Plus multiple tags to the same hunter. They have not been achieving the goal set from year one. I believe it was in the area of 600 per year to keep the heard at current levels and 1000 to reduce the size of the herd to manageable levels. They should set a number of bear to cull and keep the season open till the number is reached starting in Sept. and ending in February with the permit seasons.
My point is to continue and expand the bear hunt. With a plan that will really work. F&G are not hitting the numbers they 1st forecast to keep the population at manageable levels. I have spoken with the bear biologists they knew 4 years ago that the numbers taken from the hunt were too low and the bears harvested gets less each year. F&G knows the plan is not working, it is their responsibility to speak truth to matter regardless of outcome or blowback from the public or politicians, and develop the correct plan to control the bear population.
We still have a bear problem in NJ (and F&G knows it)and it will not be controlled until the bear numbers harvested are in line with the carrying capacity of the
land.

We are way over that right now especially in the Northwest corner. I know this because I hunt that area of the state.
I also know first hand that the hunting pressure does make the bears more wary of humans.

Does it matter to the complainers here, none of whom I'd be willing to bet has ever attended a F&G Council meeting or written a letter or sent an email, that this cookbook is now 5 years old? I got the same cookbook the first year of the 5 year hunt when I shot a bear. This isn't some new way to get more bear hunters in the woods.

Also, how many of you can tell the rest of us how we got to the current 5 Year Comprehensive Black Bear Management Plan and an annual hunt? What do you know of the politics behind it? The court orders behind it? The resulting science behind it? Can you tell us what needs to be done to change it? What have you then done to make those changes?

Too many on this site just speak out of their a$$es without having the very first clue of what you are complaining about. I truly wish just a few of you would take the time to understand the issues behind your complaints so that maybe instead of hanging the Division or the Council you would wake up and get directly involved in changing our fish and game codes for the better. When I attend a Council meeting, it is me, a bunch of antis, one or two reporters, the Council members and Division staff. Missing are hundreds of concerned hunters, anglers and trappers. Why? Why do you leave the sports you love to chance? Get involved and get educated. For all of our sakes!

Valid point, perhaps the meetings should be a priority and a show of strength would not hurt. How about a meet up , rent a bus from a localized point and organize like the anti do. Where do I sign up? Now for a leader, lawyer as spokesperson. Any one want to get the ball rolling?
