My buddy just texted me and said they have safety zone signs in Black River saying 450 ft Gun or Bow, What gives? This is the first time he's been out this year and I haven't been out yet either. And we both hunt up against the safety zones. I think I may have to call F&G. He's thinking they may be old signs they just want to get rid oftfor gun season as they are always ripped down, but he didn't set up where we normally do just in case.

I had a similar problem years ago they just throw up signs to warn of safety zone it up to you to know the distance to whatever the safety zone is protecting signs could be 1000 ft from whatever you still maybe OK I hope I explained so you understand but always good to ask

I've yelled at many pheasant hunters hunting in the safety zones who didn't know there was a house behind the tree lines, A few times I was bird hunting myself with an unloaded gun trying to kick up a bird for wife and kids and they were walking the field next to the road and houses. The next year the state clear cut the field to stuble.

Knowing the azzhole mc*mansion dwellers adjacent to Black River my guess is someone complained to the DFW and they appeased them with the sign. Much like those stupid noise barriers at the clay bird range there.
That's what I told him, he's from out of state and figures I would know more about it. I met him there year ago and we share info and will even hunt within 80 yds of each other knowing one of us will probably get a shot. Got to have respect for a guy that tells you he seen an 8ptr under your tree, your both out to get him and 2 days later you get him and he's happy for you rather than pissed.. [up]

Is it a WMA safety zone sign? If so, there are areas of the WMAs that you cannot hunt and they do change those areas sometimes. I know the one by me you can hunt one side of the road but not the other and it's all WMA land.

Nothing has changed since the houses has been built. years ago the hubby and wife were wondering in the woods and spotted me and said their neighbor saw someone in a tree on their land. I was over 400 yds from their property and 60 yds in from the closest and 250 from the nearest house. They saw me and said thewy were looking for a trespasser , I told them there on state land and leave me be. They did, surprised they didn't steal my stand. Been hunting there for over 20+years. I know all the boundaries and carry a range finder.
