His first hunt and he just shot at his first deer. Bigger of a a couple nice 4x4s.. Deer all ran off, then came back, but not the biggun. Then we saw him skirt out of a thicket and head back behind us.. Damn crossbow shoots so fast I couldn't see the bolt but the deer lurched like a hit. We're pinned down by the other 8 and some smaller now. Just wanna ease out at dark.

he is breathing like a man possessed right now. I don't envy him tonite

Sounds like you're both in for a long night.

You appear to be making all the right moves, If he was mortally wounded you should find him.

He's confident despite the meager findings, lol. Work is on me now... He can ease back and wait for dad to produce,lol.

His face was priceless..a button walked out from behind us as ten yards and he thought that was it..then the two 8s stepped out right in front of him but the wrong window from where his shooting sticks were set up...He just froze, lol. I had to hand him his crossbow. Deer never did step in front of the right window and after about ten minutes I had to reach over him and grab the sticks by the yolk and move them..He squeezed it off after stopping himself a couple times..I could see he was controlling his breathing and timing the shot for when he exhaled, but he learned its alot different acing a target and shooting a real nice deer.

Kid knows big deer and I knew he wouldnt shoot at just any. He's shown that time and again when hunting along side of me until this year. He didnt hesitate to shoot this one. Hope things work out in the morning.

I can just picture it,special! Ok you didn't have your supersonic flight glasses on,how bout your bionic ear lolyou hear a whack,a thud?From where you found blood was that where the deer was last standing?You shot from ground level your not going to get an immediate blood trail,exit is high,mark last blood with a stick stuck in the ground I double mt tp for this any hooooo's weapons back to the truck first,call mom second no particular order there lol lights good extra batts.You have a magical night to track one of the joys of the hunt!Blue sky watch the moon where you start use as a bearing, heading in the dir. he ran look for kicked up leaves fresh hoof prints slow an listen for if you jump him.What clor blood by the way.I'm sure with you and your son with an xbow you've practiced that deer ain't far if he lunged it you'll pick up blood within 40 50 yds he's spittin out,report,out.
