I went outside a little bit ago to close the enclosure and do a head count. as I walk out side I see one running around like a chicken with its head cut off. a coopers hawk was dive bombing it. I almost caught the hawk with my bare hands as it was trying to grab the chicken, it didn't see me coming to the last second. the hen was doing her best but if I had been a second later it would of been all over. the hawks were bad in the spring-early summer then died off a bit. I hope they arn't as bad as last winter. these damn hawks cost me more in loss of farm income then the deer.

choking the chicken is good luck, always get a big buck or skies filled with whistling wings. you got to try it some time, but mums the word keep it a secrete or the DD crowd will be doing it. [rofl]

that's my pro advice for he night but shhhhhh

The hawks have been around a lot here lately... my poor hens are sick of being stuck in the run, but I'd rather not deal with a hawk v. chicken mess.

fox is one thing I don't have a problem with. I trap the sh** out of my place once the season starts and they all eat led, rubbed or not. two years ago I pulled over 20 in a single hedge row by the coop. last year only a couple and seeing even less this year. I got them in check now.

HAwks? Pfsssssssst... Wait till a Bear gets in your Coop. Had 30 chickens now have one left. A black grizzle Americauna. Survived Hawks, Fox, Yotes, and a Bear. Either the smartest Chicken in the coop or the luckiest.

Same here. Some problems with fox, raccoons and skunks. But bears have been the big issue. Bears come and demolish my run and rip apart my coupe. They get a taste for chicken and keep coming back for more as long as there seems to be a supply.

Damn I thought you had a good recipe for farm raised chicken [tasty]. Well I guess you have to put a net over entire yard now.
na I already covered 200' with flight netting, they will have to be happy enough with that. I been letting them run because I closed off half of their run and planted it with clover and grasses. just want it to get a good hold before I let them in it. plus they eat all the ticks around the house. when I let them run you cant find a tick. keep them in the run for a week and you cant walk to the run without getting a tick
