Looking for something to pass the NJ Bow Hunter Exam with. No muss, no fuss. Willing to rent on for up to $50 + refundable deposit. Just want to pass both rifle and bow at once. Not looking to bow hunt. I'm left-handed if that makes a difference.

Located in North Jersey and plan to take exam at Clinton WMA.

Thanks.

I took my son to Clinton Last fall for his bow test. I was stunned at the amount of guys who showed up with 20 year old+ compounds, who could barely hit the target. I'd say over 1/2 of those who tested failed. Needless to say, anyone who used a cross bow was pretty much assured of passing. (I think only 3 out of the 30 guys/gals had Xbows). One kid was shooting a Bear Whitetail II that had to be 30 years old.

I'm in Summit, NJ area, but am flexible with traveling to meet up. Planning to take the exam @ Clinton WMA in Sept. or October. Just looking for something I can pass the bow test with minimal practice.
Borrow someone elses crossbow, minimal practice. Wait i'm going out west can i borrow someones rifle will only fire it 2-3 times plan on taking shots out to 500yds. Is this person for real!

Not trying to hate on the cross bows or for the fact of wanting to get involved in the sport. But the bow test is for proficiency with the bow for clean ethical kills. You need to practice allot weather it's compound or cross bow not just show up with one. Another thing that comes to mind is one would take the test with x bow so they pass than have they're bow license than get a compound and hunt because they now can legally but have not taken the time shooting said compound. Just my opinion.

Why should you get a bow license with minimal practice? Did you practice with your rifle?
yeah. exactly this. until you buy a bow and practice with it you don't DESERVE to have a bow license. the last thing nj needs is some idiot in the woods during bow season who doesn't even know which way to hold a bow. if you aren't going to bow hunt, why get a bow hunting license?

I can understand wanting to get both out of the way at the same time but would tend to agree with what others have said......get a bow, a bow you plan to hunt with and practice until you are proficient.....then take the test.

I'll probably catch crap for this but IMO crossbow should be a totally different class of license. Passing the bow test with a cross gun should not open up the gates to taking any other sort of bow afield. Just my opinion and not meant to be offensive.

totally agree. a crossbow isn't a bow and shooting one doesn't make you proficient or even capable of shooting any other sort of bow. at all. it should certainly be a different certification

If you want to buy a used one...I have a barnett wildcat c5 in camo with red dot scope, bolts, field points, mechanicals, cocking rope, extra string, lube and a soft case. I will take 225 cash..... live in monmouth county...work in union county....had hunted crossbow due to car accident but am back to compound...just got my elite 35 from Chris at World Class....game on!

That's a big issue. Borrow a crossbow to get your proficiency test out of the way. You say your not going to bow hunt, then why take the test. The problem is with a guy like you, you'll pass the test, pick up the first junk bow you see, and leave wounded deer all over the woods. Do it the right way!!!!! By the way I have a 43 year old son, that I won't let bow hunt if he hasn't been shooting regular. How do I know if he's been shooting, I asked my granddaughter, if she says no. I tell him, I'll ruin his hunt if I catch him out there.

Really? I hunt in VA where there is no archery proficiency test and I don't see all these wounded deer all over the woods. Maybe NJ hunters aren't as good shots??

I agree with Jason ....2 tests . I have a cross bow, 2 compound bows and a few recurves ..practice with them all...But the cross bow is on... so if a person passes with the crossbow then hunts with compound bow animals will be wounded

I seen them all come thru a hunter safety course, at every class we have at least one or two that need additional assistance on proficiency.

Why would this guy want to borrow a cross bow to pass his test if he doesn't plan on hunting? I find dead deer in the woods all the time with poorly placed shots.
Last year just in my trapping areas I found four buck, and seven doe, never recovered. This year I plan on taking pics, and posting them to show how bad some of these guys are.
