I could care less how many stands I come accross. I leave one up all year because nobody hunts near that spot-- to thick for most people to venture. I take the others down and hide them in thick nasty area close by until week before season then put them back up. I know of plenty of treestands that have been up for several years. It is public land but I try to find areas away from people which really is not that hard to do. Most guys overlook spots to get in deep and some of the best spots are right off the road. I have shot several bucks off a paved road and can watch the guy cutting his lawn, raking leaves, etc and it is on a WMA. Learn where these people hunt and use it to your advantage instead of complaining that they have a treestand left in the woods.
So you take other peoples stands down, hide them, and put them back up? For what reason?

Also the excuse of too thick is kinda BS. If you found it I guarantee other people found it. I'm always amazed when I go hunting in "the thickest stuff ever" I find spent shotgun shells.

Absolutely. Why the phrase "Take In, Take Out" doesn't apply to treestands eludes me.
Laziness... I hunt my own farm and still to this day use a climber. Whether you hunt public or private land a climber gives you that flexibility to make a quick change on the fly. If there is any place a quick change is needed is public grounds.

What bothers me more is all the trash people leave in the WMA's. I was scouting 2 weeks ago. I came across a fire pit made of rocks surrounded by beer cans. If you are going to have an illegal fire and drink on the WMA's at least carry the cans out. When I got out tomorrow to scout I am going to bring a garbage bag to remove them. Then I came up to the back of an abandoned house on the border of the WMA and they used the woods for their own persons garbage dump. They had an old washer in the woods, an oven, a hand dolly and tons of buckets.

I am going to hang stands this week, and I am hanging stands almost right on top of other stands that I know for a fact don't get hunted because i hunted this land for 70 days straight and never once saw anyone in those stands.

As for trying to find open woods that are good and going in deeper, where I hunt it's maybe 150 acres and there is no deeper lol. If I went any deeper I would be on private land or in someones kitchen asking them whats on the menu lmao.

ah the good ol farm parties. kids just dont do that like we did back in the days. i can still see the bonfire flames the cases of beer, women dancing around in all most nothing and the occasional farmers cow and bull that got tied up to the school flag ploe. kids now a days do drugs, steal and go shoot people. i had a flash back last year hunting what is now a wma with my boy. told him about the parties we had back there. he didnt believe me so we took a walk and i found the old stone ring to the fire pit and the tree with initials carved in it.boy does that seem like a life time ago. i sorts wish they would do that more these days, everyone was safe and didnt get into trouble, just some good ol fun.

many are just abondonded, i would hunt the area, always knowing that at any time someone may walk in to hunt that stand, but thats always a chance anywhere. i would not climb or use the stand in anyway .

To me climbers represent an interesting question. I've been scouting a wma I planned to hunt this year with a climber. I went a couple of weeks ago and someone had hung a lock-on close to where I planned to use my climber.

Personally I still plan to hunt that spot. Why should I be penalized for using a climber? Just because someone put a hang on to a tree in no way in my mind makes it 'their spot'. I've scouted it plenty and am not willing to go away because someone put up a permanent stand to 'claim the spot' for themselves at the last minute.

I like climbers, but there's not always a good tree you can put a climber in. Also the trees you can hunt out of a climber typically dont have a lot of cover. I guess its ok if you climb up 25ft HAHAH. I like hunting double and triple trunk trees... generally not good for climbers but GREAT for a lock on. Lots of cover and the trunks help break you up.

This stuff gets old. Just hunt and deal with the BS that goes with public land. The old abandoned, unkempt stands are more than likely left behind by the lazy. No one should be denied the right to hunt where everyone is allowed to.

As for climbers in multi trunked trees; take a few tree steps and start the climb a bit higher. Problem solved.....HAHA

No, I take my stands down except the one. The only action that thick stuff gets is during 6 day when the orange army drives it opening morning. I have never seen a soul at that stand site in 15 years hunting there. I have found proof of people at other spots-- foot prints, pics on cam, etc but not that one spot. Other people finding a spot and willing to put in the work hunting, shooting and dragging a deer stops most people from spots like that.

I take mine down in feb and rehang them late July or August I see many that are up all year that aren't hunted so I do set a few up near them

I have 13 diff spots in zone 23 I hunt I just squirrel up with climber and I got some spots in 21 close to the highway I use a climber...same spots year after year.have yet to run into anyone during bow season or late muzzy.shotgun week I'm up north still trying to fill a bear tag..but yea who cares if someone leaves a stand in the woods if it isn't yours leave it the hell alone

There are many pieces of public land that offer opportunity, but I will never understand why some people want to announce to the world where they are hunting. Not only hanging stands and leaving them but masking tape wrapped around trees giving direction, countless reflective thumb tacks and the best, spray painted arrows that can be seen for miles. If someone is that afraid of getting lost, stay home or get familiar with the surroundings during the off season.

here's another one. I seen guys leave climbers attached to trees in the woods. They just walk in and climb up. Same thing I guess... although that certainly has more of a "I'm using this stand this year" kinda feel. If you're not hunting it why tie up that tree for someone else who may want to climb up?

Its real simple fix stands should not be allowed up 60 days prior to start of season and must be removed within 60 days after season . All stands should have to have you CID engraved in it and if they are left up after the 60 days they can be confiscated and you receive a summons in the mail for littering
I like having the cid number on stands. Having the part of 60 days before and 60 days after wouldn't change a thing. Guys would use the 60 days out as another opening day. Hey Frank, you going out on opening day of stand setting? They would make sure they get their stand in place anyway.
