If you just want a good shootin STOCK .22 I would take a look at the marlin with the microgroove barerl.. 795, model 60, etc. Dang 10/22's need a bunch of money dumped in em to shoot great.[cool]

here's my 795... weaver adjustable scope, solid no-creep base, aftermarket aluminum trigger, polished bolt and feed ramp, spring kit on the trigger. The thing is dead nuts at 100yds.

I am thinking of selling our 10/22. Bought a package deal to get the tons of .22 ammo for sale with the rifle. Thought the rifle might be nice, but i don't like it - too cheap as it sits stock and i already have much nicer 22's in my stock.

The 10/22 is new never fired. Wasn't sure what i was gonna list it for - was gonna look into what 10/22's go for. So if your interested let me know. I was gonna sell it next month or so but i can up that time frame. Zip code 08691

I opted for a Marlin 795. Better factory barrel... out of the box its a great gun. The factory 10/22's, IMHO, leave a lot to be desired.
Great minds think alike.

The 795 is more accurate than the 10/22 (certainly out-of-the-box anyway), costs > $100 less, and has last round bolt hold open (which the 10/22 does not).

IMHO there are only two reasons why the 10/22 is the best selling .22 in America:

1) It's HIGHLY customizable to anything you want, which is appealing to some
2) Name recognition (same reason so many people buy an Iphone for their first smartphone, it's what they've heard about)

Great gun. Bought mine in 1980. One of my first gun purchases.
Now the only stock parts are the receiver and bolt. It shot great new and even better
Now. However I do like my magnum research carbon barrel 22 mag better. They make it in a
long rifle version also with a lite carbon barrel or heavy steel barrel

Cabelas in Hamburg has the Takedown 10/22 on sale for $315 now.

I just got one a few weeks ago myself.. Great shooters right out of the box. Little things that you need to change IMO trigger job, bolt lock, mag release etc but they're like Honda Civics super cheap and aftermarket parts galore in all price ranges. I can easily bust clay targets out to 200yds with mine after playing with ammo types and etc... Awesome guns
