For those of you that know me and fished with me through out the years know I am very picky about my gear ,I have been known to step off my boat and throw gear in dumpsters or just give it away , a couple years ago I geared my boat with canyon reels , I met with the owner and spent some time talking over my needs and wants in a reel and we decided what was best for the conditions I fish ,after some hard testing of them they proved to me to be top notch reels and I ordered 8 the very next day .while offshore the 30's I had bought made quick work on sharks often and not a single time was the even a doubt in my mind that I would have any tackle troubles .inshore we went with the 15's and have done many bass just shy of the fifty mark on them and thousands of fluke trouble free ,to me I rely on my tackle ,if and when I have any trouble it throws my mind set off and I'm just wasting time .the other day I was in the tackle box and seen the new 3500 spinners and just had to have one to test out before I added them to my boats arsenal of gear, this week I set out to see what canyon has created and see if it was worthy of fishing on the misfit ,what I have found early on is this reel is no joke I put 15 lb test pp on it and a small amount of backing ,the drag is way more then you will ever need but great to know it's there if need be. I opted to do three tests on it to get a quick idea of what I was using day one ,I set out on land and used clams , I paired it with a 7' med action loo is rod and it was perfect balance ,from the first to last cast of the day it was smooth and over powered for my needs I had zero problems controlling the fish the drag was insane on the bulldog runs the bass make ,I knew at this point I was going to order a dozen but still went on to see what the reel was made of ,day two structure and rattle traps on bridges and river banks again flawless on the same rod ,I found I had extreme control of casting and a perfect fit in my hands and throwing a couple hundred casts I had very little hand fatigue which is always a huge concern for me fishing multiple days a week ,day three was to be a true test ,I switched it to a 8' loo is that I use to jig weakies in rivers and set out for long casting channel edges with light jigs for bass, this is where I made my final decision to buy a dozen of these ,extreme complete control of every cast and being so small allowed me to throw smaller jigs and larger and bounce the bottoms .i am flat out sold on these reels and highly recommend taking a look at them they are made in nj and are top notch and will be the only reels I supply this season .i can not say enough about them

I'm not one to bullsh@t ,I believe in truth in reporting and rely on my gear to preform and it is intended ,I can say in all honesty these are great reels I own 15 now and will be adding 10-12 spinners to the boat this season

They stink inside , just like a mouse .but they will make great trapping bait for next year

I hate to be the bearer of bad news...............they won't hold up, UNLESS they are newly designed. I fished with the canyon reels and watched 2 burn up while livelining stripers. That was 2 years ago, hope things have changed. If a striper does that, never hold up with tuna. Good luck. I'll stick with my shimanos, never had a single problem in 20 plus years, never.

That is your opinion. I fished the 15's on my boat for 2 years without any trouble ,and I can promise you they were put to the true test thousands of fish on each reel I own and not one problem at all ,I get it that you want to bash a company because you got burnt ,but understand I have not yet .and my reels were used on a charter boat so new people beat them every trip and they held up ,I used them myself with no trouble so I bought some for myself ,I get discounts on shimano and own quite a few and have had trouble with some stradics and even had a gear go on one of my Stella's ,hell I like shimano so much I named my dog Stella after the reel but I am venturing into trying new gear

I am not bashing them. I am telling you my experience with them. They burned up on 30 lb bass. The owner, not sure of his name (lives in Brick) replaced them quickly. He even brought them boatside to exchange. Good customer service. I simply was telling you about what I saw two years ago and hope they have been revamped. I have spoke to many charter captains and a few said GREAT things about them. However, I believe you get what you pay for and I think there is a reason they are inexpensive. As I said earlier, I never had a problem with my Shimano(s), except that they are pricey. I hope you give us an update in a year about IF they held up. They didn't in the past. I hope they get better and better and better........... I like to see small companies succeed, especially a NJ company. Good luck and keep us (me) posted.

Being they are local and small is why I loaded my boat with them and I was well rewarded with so far great reels ,I am know for my lack of concern for pricey reels ,I have had a slip in the drag on a Calcutta that cost my a fish ,the reel was days old ,it went in with the fish ,lol. I will throw a pos in the drink where it belongs if it's not holding up .i don't allow penn on my boat because they are junk ,now I'm told they remade all there reels again ,big deal once junk always junk .if these reels give me trouble they will be thrown away also

Keep us all posted. That's why the reviews here are nice. I am tough on equipment, but take care of it. Like you said above, I too am not a Penn fan either. I had a problem with a Penn baitrunner spinning reel last year and now stay away from them. I use the Shimano Thunnus baitrunner for livelining bass, I love my talica for jigging tuna, and love either TLD or Talica (depending on budget) for tuna chunking. I was striper fishing today and we used Avets....not bad reels, but prefer others. What rods you using???
